This is for the birds! Literally.....
On Tuesday, a bird flew into the storm window on my front screen door. The dog barked like mad! The bird left a bit of slobber and tiny feather pieces on the glass. Dazed itself and sat on the porch for about 20 minutes or so. Eventually it flew off with another bird that had landed on the porch with it.
Yesterday late afternoon there was a loud bang on the front of the house next to the door. The dog barked like mad again! This time the bird wasn't so lucky. It was lying on its back. It kicked its feet out and then tucked them in somewhat. Its beak was open slightly. I decided to see if it was just dazed because it was starting to rain.
I put on my Playtex gloves and went onto the porch. I knelt down and watched for any movement. I gently put a finger on its front to see if it was breathing. Its eyes were slightly open. No movement at all. I gently picked it up and placed it in a box and moved it out of the rain. When I laid the box down I noticed that its eyes were definitely closed at this point. Hubby checked and it was dead.
Seems every year birds fly into the outside of the house. Last year it was the back of the house into the living room windows.
I wonder if they are chasing each other or something. You know how you see a smaller bird chasing a larger bird at times? Or if they are just plain stupid! I mean.... my house is pretty big.
*sigh*
