the problem is it's not a mac ;)

more seriously, it could be a number of issues. There could be a problem with harddisk. Check to see if it's making odd noises, perhaps like a repeating click - that would mean there's a physical problem with the drive. The other problem would be some kind of corruption with your windows install. Bung in your windows CD and boot from it, see if you can reinstall over the top of the damaged installation you have.

I dunno then. On a mac you hold down the "c" key to boot from a CD. Probably isn't a Windoze equivalent. You could target the machine to the other PC and mount it as a harddrive and take a look... oh wait, that's also just a mac thing... um, god macs are just so much easier to troubleshoot...

Yes.. :D

Hold the Power button on till the Laptop shuts down and restart it.. Press the F8 Key.. It should ask you to Start up in Safe Mode..

Do a Safe Start up and see if that fixes the problem..

If the Hard Drive got fried, there is little that can be done, but I doubt that is the problem..

Whether a MAC or Windows Based there is nothing any machine could do that could prevent a drive from dying.. :D

WIndows usually boots from the disk automatically if it's present. However, you can make sure you're booting from the CD by constantly pressing the BIOS\Setup key during startup and changing the Boot Driver Order. It's usually F1, or F2 or the such.

Once you're in the BIOS, find the Boot Order Priority setting, and set CD to #1, then save all and exit.

A safe mode start won't do any good because Windows isn't loading in the first place.

Nope, still no good, tried everything you all suggested but it dosent matter what you press, nothing happens, cant even turn the computer off, have to just let the battery run out or take it out, probably take it round to a mate's later who might be able to fix it.

Bryan was too exhausted yesterday, but he noticed no one asked what operating system you used. Said it would help to figure out what's wrong.

you might try a reset

on a HP you do the following

remove all peripherals such as discs and cards

remove the battery

unplug from the a/c adapter

hold down the start button for at least 15 seconds

reinstall the battery and try the start button again

If that fails then you are fucked :D

Ah, Windows Vista

Well I have to agree with Ed then.. You need a MAC.. :sarcasm

Try pressing ( Hold it down, and keep it held down ) the ESC Key when the Laptop starts.. That should bring you into the BIOS.. Select the CD Rom as the Start up.. Save everything before leaving the BIOS..

Put the Windows Vista Disc in the drive ( you may even want to do this first ).. See if that Helps..

If not sure, take the Laptop to Best Buy UK ( Geek Squad ) and ask them for help.. :)
