i recommend a SATA harddrive as a backup. I run windows (and/or Linux) on an IDE harddrive, and have 2 SATA's as slave drives. Although either way you can still back up data.Investing in an external is a great idea, especially now. I just bought a 1tb for $120.00 at Best Buy.

The one I got came with something that was supposed to make a backup every time I plug in. The auto-play software was slow and pissed me off though so I just formatted it.
