So I told my brother about my PC and I guess last night he decided to try and fix it. He reinstalled Windows XP and I don't know what else he did. Is all the memory gone? Files, programs, pictures, etc? Would he of put them on to a cd or anything? Any guesses to what he did? I haven't talked to him yet, but I am worried sick.

Only you know what you're brother would do... this is more of a rhetorical question because how are we supposed to know? If he wiped your system and didn't back anything up you're going to have to download everything again. Which isn't as hard as it seems.

Would that mean that all of my pictures and documents are gone, and I can't get them back?

ask him what he did. If he formatted the drive before he installed XP - then it's all gone bye bye. If he did a repair install of XP, then you should be ok. Did you have XP before?

Yeah, I'd imagine that it's all gone unless he did a backup. If they're not where you left them, they're probably gone.

Sounds like he did a reformat

And if he did not ask if you had anything to save I would castrate him. Because that would be very stupid or very inconsiderate.

What was the condition of the computer at the time? Were you able to view pictures.

You're brother, no offense, sounds like an idiot.

He knows a lot less about computers than he thinks, judging from your last few threads about what he's done.

He better not have deleted the pictures! I could have gotten in and saved them!!! :(

I'm so sure that the pictures from my neice being born uptil now and the ones from the trip of my life don't matter that much! I am going to start crying I only had a few of them saved... what about all the school work for electronic high school??? OMG!

Did you have them saved online anywhere? Photobucket, myspace, or anything?

Only a few of the ones of Emma and the best ones from the trip... but there all in small sizes. I won't be able to blow them up or print them in high quality :(

Then I'd hit him in the head with a brick and mark it down as a lesson learned. Get an external harddrive to put your pics on, or make sure you upload them somewhere. If he reinstalled windows, as far as I know there's no way you'll get them back.

Could he of installed a new disk? I used to save them to a flash drive... until i lost the flash drive.

why dont you just ask him what he did? if he reinstalled the windows then everything is gone. hopefully he backed everything up to a jumpdrive or something, thats what i would do. :willy_nilly:

"theoretically" if he did a quick format, the data is just hidden, but you wouldnt be able to get to it anyways... a full format and its gone. did you specify for him to save your data?
