[h=1]Mitt Romney's Dog Incident Comes Back To Haunt Him[/h]When Mitt Romney strapped his Irish setter to the roof of his car in 1983 and drove all the way to Canada as the dog defecated in fear, he couldn't have guessed his decision would follow him for decades, enraging animal lovers and raising questions about his character and management style.

:wtf:Tells me all I need to know about him... Who does that? I didn't think much of him before this and I think lots less of him now. One can tell a lot about a person with how they treat their pets.

hehehehehehehehehehehe.... I was wondering who would be the first to say something along those lines. That was my first thought. Follow the links. Apparently it did indeed happen

That's not to say he's the first person to strap their pet to the top of their car (or perhaps he is?). But it does indeed say something about him.

One of the reasons I first bought a wagon and then an suv was so that there was plenty of room for our large dog if we had to evacuate (as we live in Hurricane land). There is no way I would have strapped my dog in a carrier to the top of the roof. Hell, I wouldn't even have had her fly in the belly of a plane.

Again, it says a lot about him.

Yeah, I believe everything I read, particularly in a presidential election:rolleyes:

Especially if it's from the Huffington Post! :thumbup

There are two sides to this one for sure.

Apparently the Romneys had done this numerous times without a problem and the crate was secure and durable. As for the defecating and hosing: We really don't know if the dog shit out of fear. And, a hosing seems like the best option if you're on the road and need to quickly clean up the dog.

This is definitely not an ideal situation. But honestly, I don't think something that happened over 25 years ago based on hearsay dictates what kind of person Romney is.

Hopefully when people vote against him, it will be because they disagree with his politics and stance on issues rather than a sensationalized tabloid story.

I don't know... Again, you can tell a lot about a person by how they treat their pets.

If I were to find out Ron Paul had done this to his dog or cat at any point in his life, he'd lose my vote. That may seem silly to you, but to me, it isn't.

But I agree that there is more important stuff out there that will detract from MR. But any serious pet-lover that is on the fence about him just might take that into consideration.

Ya don't put your pet in a carrier on top of the car. Windscreen or not.

I have threatened to put PBBB up there, but would never put our pets up there ;)

I wouldn't put my dog on the roof in a crate and drive to Canada, but then again I'm not a politician.
Er....

Unfortunately, I think unsavory personalities are par for the course in politics. I can understand this one being a huge issue for you. Some may find it petty and accuse a person of all sorts of negligence to the country for placing it above policy, but hey...that's freedom, no?

We're mostly fucked in the head lol, you should think that already :24:
He won't be president, but it won't be because of this.

Hey, why be normal ;)

He won't make President. All these candidates are doing is ensuring Barack gets re-elected.

Why would you say that?

Like politifact is unbiased. Here's how they frame this true incident:

The liberal New York Times columnist has mentioned the incident in print 19 times, by our count.

This is definitely not an ideal situation. But honestly, I don't think something that happened over 25 years ago based on hearsay dictates what kind of person Romney is.

Then politifact editorializes another half page about the "liberal columnist" before finally getting to any relevant facts:

Aside from wondering why Collins is so obsessed with the story, we also wondered: Is it true?

Then politifact goes on editorializing:

The liberal blog Wonkette said it showed Romney would be a great commander-in-chief for the notorious Iraq prison Abu Ghraib. David Kravitz of the liberal blog Blue Mass Group called it "nuts" and "classic Romney: it solves a problem efficiently, in a business-like manner, and with no regard whatsoever for the suffering that the solution may cause." Ingrid Newkirk of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals told Time's Ana Marie Cox that Romney was giving his children "a lesson in cruelty" and that dogs under extreme stress might lose control of their bowels. "That alone should have been sufficient indication that the dog was, basically, being tortured," she said. Cox explored whether Romney's actions might have been illegal under animal cruelty laws. (A moot point, because the statute of limitations has long expired.)

Politi-fact should more accurately be called Politi-SLANT.

It's nothing more than a right wing apologist rag.

Hopefully when people vote against him, it will be because they disagree with his politics and stance on issues rather than a sensationalized tabloid story.

This is an important issue to animal lovers. And it is no more sensationalized than any other political story of this nature. Thae FACT is that is did occurr - don't shoot the messenger for bringing the mail - which is exactly what politi-SLANT did.

Was the dog hurt?

The dog shit all over himself. Ever seen a stressed animal let it rip? I'd say thats abuse.

Romney fucked over a hell of a lot of working class people with his Bane vulture capitaism. (Great political slander thanks to his fellow right wingers:D)

Even without the animal abuse, he's a scum bag of the oligarchy that we cannot afford to allow to steer our ship.

I was listening to a Laura Ingraham repeat (I never listen to her but it was that or a gardening show) yesterday where she played Gingrich crowing about Romney's ad about him getting 4 Pinocchios, then pointing out that Gingrich's ad about Romney ALSO got the same 4 Pinocchios. :D
