I love Harry Potter like fat kids love cake. And I also love cake, despite not being a fat kid. Back to the point, recently my desire to have a Harry Potter-themed wedding was crushed when I realised you need an awesome budget to make it both classy and amazing. Plus, I'm not engaged yet. So I've decided to settle for second best - a Harry Potter Halloween Party!
Obviously I've still got three months, but I'm already the most excited muggle ever. I have a list of ideas, but I know there are other HP/cake fans here and I desire your input! Not so much on the cake side of things though. In fact just focus on the Harry Potter, okay?
So my current ideas are as follows:
1. A sign on the hedge at the bottom of our driveway saying 'platform 9 3/4' with chalk train tracks leading to the front door, hogwarts express style.
2. Everyone to be sorted randomly into a house when they arrive.
3. We have a big tree in back garden (in fact most of the garden is that bloody tree) so I want to find a toy ford anglia and put it in the tree, to represent the whomping willow.
4. Turn our dining table into honeydukes and fill lots of glass jars with different sweets from the books.
5. Make butterbeer from butterscotch schnapps and cream soda.
6. Hang flameless led candles from the ceiling with fishing wire (I got this idea from someone's HP party site and it looked awesome).
7. Further to people being sorted - each house will get points for random activities around the house like drinking a shot or winning a game etc, and at midnight the house with the most points will win prizes.
8. One of the games mentioned above - we have a small lawn in the front garden. Up against the hedge I want to put three sticks of varying lengths in the ground and stick hoops to the top of them - quidditch pitch! People would have to try and throw the quaffle through the hoops from a standing position, with people in other house throwing bludgers at them to try and make them miss. The snitch would probably be hanging from one of the trees.
If anyone can think of anything totally amazing to add, please do so! I'll update this when I can with ideas and pictures.
