Dude! britian attacked germany, the very best ace of all time was a german ace hartmann, that fighting sprit quickly stopped once USA got in, they got OWNED, the germans, low on well trained pilots and petrol, shot down a number that is even a guy that have'nt callucated the numbers would realize it's more then a million, luftwaffe had the very best planes in WW2 and WW1, in WW2 the FW190 unthinkably owned the skies for a year, then the spitfire IX was able to outurn it, but the last model of the FW190 was absloutly able to outurn it, in terms of firepower the winner is FW190 and the spitfire series was known for a light armor, alot of its armor was removed for better turn rate, and then the super-strong ME262 showed up, the "flying swallow" was able to shoot down evreything in its way, it was a damn good plane, fastest thing flying at the time, the B-17's suffered a massacre in the skies once they were faced with it, even other propeller driven fighters shot the flying fortresses easily, it was nicknamed "the flying coffin" by luftwaffe pilots due to a serios engine problem; it lacked self sealing feul tanks, that meant it was EXTREMLEY often it would go ablaze with a single bullet in the engine, the escorting fighters we'rent effective aswell, luftwaffe develloped all kinds of tactics to counter enemy attcking formations, as known, B-17's were easy as pie to be destroyed by diving from its above, and even more velunarble to frontal fly-bys, a luftwaffe pilot would go at it's front, shoot the engines or the pilot then break away or do a split-S to run away from the attacking escorts, now when the ME 262 showed up, it was a fireworks display by the luftwaffe on those bombers, the ME262 would use rockets (non guided) to blow them to pieces, which showd the reason why nearly all B-17 operations failed, a ME262 pilot if he runs out of rockets he would use the massive, unholy armament mounted on it, extremley high firepwer is in it, later, the ME262 pilots would launch a package of rockets in volleys "wolf packs" on enemy bombers and fighters, it was a deadly weapon, detonates when it goes close to the target, the ME262 pilots lost 100 planes and killed 509 planes, those 509 kills would become 1000 if those fighhters were actually manned by fighter pilots, not bomber pilots, it was a deadly groundattack aircraft, carrying rockets, or 250KG bombs, for bombers, the germans used the Arado AR 234
