I wanted ti get in early and say happy valentines day to all the ladies, and ask does this purely commercial day actually matter to you and if so why is it so important?

It means feck all to me whether single or in a relationship. If you love someone you should tell them everyday you love them, not need one day to tell you to tell them you love them. It's commercialised crap IMO.

Nope, I have no intention of getting ripped off. If I want to buy the missus flowers, I'll do it on one of the other 364 days of the year when they cost a third of the price.

All holidays get commercialised, so if I objected on those grounds then I'd never celebrate anything.

I enjoy it, because what girl doesn't like flowers and chocolates? But I'm not going to die if we don't do anything :p we have hardly any money this year so it's not like we'll be going out, and I'll consider myself lucky if I get a card. At the most, we might end up getting a chinese in and watching a movie.

However, if I was with someone who knew I enjoyed the day and we did have the time and money, I'd be a little pissed to not even have it acknowledged that it was a special day. I don't send christmas cards all year round and I don't expect valentines cards any other day of the year either - having one day that everyone takes to celebrate being with someone they love is no bad thing in my eyes. It's up to you whether you turn that celebration into a financial drain.

I don't like getting flowers unless they are ones I can plant.

I think buying cut flowers as a symbol of love is lame, they die in 1-2 weeks... some symbology :24: Well in some cases, I guess it might be.

I don't need to celebrate V-day, I just like to. It's more fun since we have kids, they get so excited.

Totally agree.
I much prefer showing the love the other 364 days of the year aswell, not just the one.

I really enjoy Valentine's Day now because of the sweet gifts and cards from my students. Classroom Valentine parties are so much fun and I love coming up with lessons that somehow relate in the days leading up to it.

As far as celebrating it with my husband, it really isn't a big deal. We never do much of anything for it. However, I must say I think it is an important day. Everyone feels under appreciated at some point. It is nice to have a day dedicated to telling the people you love why they mean so much to you. Ideally this should happen throughout the year but with the hustle and bustle of things a lot of times it goes unsaid. And I feel you can do so without spending much money if any at all.

EXACTLY!

It was never a very big day for me, the man is the touchy one and thinks we should celebrate like it's the most important day of the year.

Agreed, I know a lot of people who say 'show your love all year round!' but I don't actually see many people doing that - or rather, going above the usual things they'd do anyway.

Plus, I think getting cards and flowers every day or every week would get a bit much :p having a day for it keeps it more of a special thing.
