Is it a choice? Or is it fate. Is it up to those around us? Our circumstances?

Personally, I believe it is a choice. I believe in personal responsibility. When I am unhappy, I have no one to blame but myself.

It's a choice. Somedays I just don't WANT to be happy. Maybe I'm wired wrong or something, but it's the truth. :dunno

Happiness isn't always a choice.. Sometimes, I really want to be happy but I just can't be.. As much as I try..

It can be caused by anyone, yourself, other people, animals, a thought.. You can't just decide "I'm going to be happy today" and that be that.. You have to have things go right for you or things that make you want to be happy.. You can't be happy unless something makes you feel that way..
It's not a choice, it's natural.

You aren't wired wrong .. some times you just aren't in a good mood. Doesn't mean anything is wrong with you .. just means you don't feel like being jovial that particular day.

I think a lot of it has to do with how much rest you've gotten .. if you ar etired you are more likely to be in a bleh mood, doens' thave to be a bad mood .. just a mood where you aren't in a "good" happy mood.

Usually people get cranky and aggitated .. tempers are usually shorter also, and the sense of humor begins to lack.

Yours is probabaly due to your young age .. you most probabaly get that way to keep yourself awake. Wait til you age a little, and you'll see what I mean. I used to be that way to .. now I just get bleh.

So you don't think it's a choice?

So how about this... we all have reasons to be unhappy... or depressed. I can think of 10 right now, and yet I choose instead to be happy about the good things in my life... and how I am continuing to improve myself and my surroundings.

When there is a chemical imbalance, or when people have physical issues that conflict with that, sure... it's understandable. But when people don't, I think we have a choice.

We choose everything. We choose our mood, our state of mind, our existence. Why not choose to be happy, in a good mood, to continually improve ourselves? It's certainly better than feeling depressed, sorry for yourself, and a whining all the time about it.

I find it difficult to be happy at all. Happy is a state of mind, and in my state "happy" looks funny.

Not getting off the topic, I prefer the word content. Things can be chaotic around me, as such like right now, but yet I am not running aimlessly around. I am content.

I am usually content. Extreme situations cause discontent, and then is when you would most likely not want to be around me. Those times are very rare, or so it appears from my perspective.

So do you think people choose to cry when someone they love dies?

I think that sadness is a part of life... certain things happen that are out of our control. Mourning is certainly a good thing... but so is celebrating the life of someone you loved, and doing your best to honor them by living your life to the best of your ability to do so.

You can be in mourning, and still be happy.

No matter what is going on in my life I have this joyful spirit that lives inside of me.

Emotions such as happiness, sadness, anger, excitement, etc. are fleeting and always changing. They are cues to my circumstances or thoughts. By changing my circumstances and/or thoughts I change my emotions, so it is not my emotions I trust, but my thoughts and even those I analyze against truth.

It takes a lot to take away the joy inside of me. And even in those times that I do manage to drown it out with my own negativity and cynicism, it doesn't last for long as I know those are wrong ways of thinking.

How we think is up to us and it is our perspective and attitude that will determine how we feel.

(disclaimer: not withstanding mental illness or chemical imbalances)

Don't get me wrong I can be the crankiest shit known, but I usually get into a mood where I can't help but giggle at everything..

I love going to bed, I love sleeping, I never purposely keep myself awake.. lol

Fate is absurd

Anyways, happiness does depend on your attitude, but it also has to do with internal and external factors and stimuli.

When I say keep yourself awake .. I mean when you are tired and you have to stay awake (like if you didn't get enough sleep at night and have to go to school or work) .. being hyper is a way for your body to keep itself functional during the time you have to be but your body is exhausted. :)

Not that you do it on purpose to just stay up for no reason ;).
