In my hometown (Monterrey, Mexico) we had some gypsies... more like transients of some sort.
Usually a group of people that would scam, pick pockets and try and rip you off for whatever little change you had on you. some would even try and entice you to put your hands on them and then they would extort your ass by asking for money or they would call the police... LOL bastards
My mother and dad always told me to stay away from them and that small few blocks near downtown were off limits to me when i started taking the bus to my grammas house, hell the bus drivers didnt even make a stop to pick anyone up near those few blocks.
Here in the US i get to see them as well, not like the ones you mention in your thread but these fuckers are the same breed of scumbags you describe LOL with some difference.
They travel in PACKS and i mean bigger packs than us Mexicans do... they usually claim to do construction work but are often traveling around areas that have been hit by some sort of natural disaster and try to get you to hire them to "fix" your roof, house, etc... only to run off with any money you give them and often have the balls to come back for more lol They all seem of some sort of middle eastern descent here in the US, in Mexico most of them spoke with a heavy Spaniard accent and like you mention they are often harder to understand than most foreigners lol
I used to see them all the time when i worked in a restaurant
They would all come in(10 or more at a time)
They would all order something, then come back and try to confuse the girl taking orders to fuck something up
They would pay for the standard soft drink (free refills) and then demand the high end drinks or beers claiming that "it is all a drink... and free refills means free refills on anything they wanted"
They would make a FUCKING MESS.. literally a fucking pig would have left less of a mess
They would them come in and try to tell my employees "i know youre stealing from this place... give me "something" or i will tell your boss"
Someone would eventually slip and fall... every time on every visit every week and they would demand a refund on their meal (never worked with me lol)
The little shit-snot-faced kids would barge into the cook line and pick fruit with their bare hands
Steal all the fucking napkins and salt n pepper shakers if you let them lol
They wanted to "sample" everything... on full size portions :|
and once they came in... they did not want to leave! Often times i would do the register check outs out on the floor while these people were still there because i never trusted them to leave my sight.
oh and they would harass any person coming in with a dented car...
I dealt with them a few times at one of the restaurants I managed, after the 2nd or 3rd time I would stop them from coming in and tell them to GTFO unless they were coming in and behaving themselves... most of the time, I would wait until they were done and then get the off-duty officer patrolling the shopping center to kick them out
