It would put a burden on our system, but i think it would be a good idea to have to register all guns. And I think the extra expense should go to the gun owner.

i'm torn on this subject. on one hand i don't think that the government needs to know what weapons i have in my posession, or should i be limited to a certain amount. on the otherhand, my dad works at the jail, 3 of my really good friends will be sheriffs soon, and a lot of my friends parents are in law enforcement (and we still managed to get in more shit than anyone else in school - figures :D ) i know for a fact that rifles and shotguns are just as dangerous as pistols if not more, and shouldn't be as easy to get as they are.

I think their logic is because of how easy it is to conceal a pistol, and in the words of Lynyrd Skynyrd "handguns are made for killin, they aint no good for nothin else". Yes, shotguns and rifles can be just as dangerous, but I think there's more legitimate reasons for owning one of those. That's just my opinion, I don't actually know NCs reasoning behind that.

i agree with dt3's point. unless you are a target shooter, there is no real need for handguns. an evil person could, however, commit murders with other weapons (hungtin weapons) including crossbows, hunting knives, and the whole shebang. i think it is a good idea, however, to register all firearms to help create a larger national database to better serve the people in case a string of homicides involving hunting weapons springs up.

those strings have already happened, but the govt wont tell you to keep the level of chaos down :dunno

id rather know if my neighbors have guns and be more cautious with them when dealing with them, then to not know and get shot at on the first visit.

Well i come from a nation of hunters and fisher's and we dont have the right ot bare arms, so rifles yes hand guns a NO. Hand guns can't be used for anything constructive by the average citizen besides target shooting and if they really wanted it for that purpose oly they can go to a range and use them then leave them there. Personally i would like to see hand guns outlawed along with any rifle that can be modified easily to an automatic. i can't see any reason people should have them, like really what purpose does owning a hand gun serve, and dont give me the whole what happens if a guy breaks into my house with a gun bit, he wouldnt have it if it were completly illegal and severly enforced, and even if he did its the whole you can't stop someone hell bent on trading his life for a target and there will always be a underground of illegal...well anything really drugs/guns/slavery...etc. How many years has it been since slavery was abolished and its still presnt in most civilized countries, even Canada and the US.

We're having a big problem up here with illegal hand guns coming up from the US, we've had the worst year on record for gun related shootings/killings. I also have no problem with the government knowing what guns i have. Do you guys in the US really believe having guns makes you safer? Like come on the civil war is over and you have the most powerful army on the planet what do you need them for, and notice i said need not want. Hey i like guns, i love to hunt i just dont see a need to have a dozen hand guns and civilian versions of millitary weaponry, especially ones that can be modified to be the millitary versions.

no, i don't think having guns makes me safer....but i sure do have an easier time knowing that i have a shot gun and some police issue buck shot very close by me. i hope to never use them for anything other than shooting clay pigeons, and for hunting. i do enjoy my guns though, i love to target practice and out shoot my friends. :D

I saw some comedian on TV the other day. He was talking about our right to bear arms to overthrow the government if it becomes necessary, which is a big anti-gun control argument i guess. Then he said the 2nd Amendment was written back when we all had muskets. Now the government has tanks and attack helicopters. We're fucked.

See i have no problem with shotguns at all, i have 4 myself, i just dont see a reason for owning a hand gun, not for the private citizen anyways. Im pretty sure if someone broke into my house with a hand gun and heard the cocking sound of my 12 gauge they'd shit thier pants, at close range you blow holes in people with shotguns, not just a tiny puncture.

:agree For self defense in your home, there is no need for handguns. A shotty will get the job done every time.

very true^^^^^^ but i sure do love a big ass pistol too.

Thats a personal like, again not a need, at some point you have to weigh the pros and cons of hand guns. Concealability, ownership rights (like having more than 1), and governmental knowledge of ownership. You dont want governmental knowledge, you want to own as many as you like and they're easy to hide and resell illegally and i dont hear many drive by's with shotguns, just hand guns, semi-auto/auto rifles....at some point danger out-wieghs what you like and you have to give it up, would you really like for everyone to have access to high powered explosives or nukes, hell they tell you basically how to make a nuke in my high school physics text, but they control the radioactive material so you cant make it....even semtex and C4 can be made with a basic chemical knowledge, but its soooooo illegal to have them no one even thinks about it, or atleast not very long

Yeah, sure, regulate all guns the same way. I don't believe in banning guns or considering them weapons of death in the hands of people with licenses, but that's just it...the people killing other people with guns aren't always people who got their gun legally with a license.

In Indiana you only have to apply for a permit to carry or conceal, other than that I could go to the gun store right now and buy any shotgun I want, take it home, load it and own it.

Depends on the ammo from a handgun. A 40 cal hand gun with a hallow point is going to put more than just a 40 caliber sized hole in someones chest. It's going to rip apart organs in a spread pattern.

I own a handgun now for protection outside my home, I'd love to have a 12 gauge handy inside too.

A couple of points here. First, most states that allow a concealed handgun require a permit. However, carrying in the open is allowed without a permit. (That varies from state to state.) That said, a permit and registration have nothing to do with each other. Your handguns are not registered with the federal government. That long ass form you filed out when you purchased your handgun never left the gun stores file cabinet. ATF will come in an inspect the gun store owners files to insure he is complying with federal law but that is about it.

Some advocacy groups cite some 20,000 different laws on the books (federal and various state laws combined). If you break that down to the major gun control laws there's really only about 300 laws that really count.

I would cite my source here but I'm too lazy. Just google "how many gun control laws are there" and you'll find what I was looking at.

Regardless of the number (300 or 20,000 and anywhere in between), does anyone really think another gun control law will make a difference?
