I've been wanting to learn to play a real guitar for years now. I had an acoustic I bought off a friend in high school. I only got as far as doing scales which I sucked at before I sold it on ebay.

But now I wanna get an electric. What are some good prices on packages (guitar, tuner, amp, straps, picks, etc)?

I was looking around and found some for 119.xx shipped. Would it be worth the money to go THAT cheap for a good first electric?

I would say yes. You have to make sure its something you want to commit to before spending alot of money. Buy a cheap guitar and amp. If you find yourself wanting to get home to your guitar no matter what. Then its time to invest. ;) I hope you stick with it. its a good release. If it werent for my guitar and writting, I would have probably takin my life by now James.

It's something I would play around on and try to match songs when I can.

Guitar Hero II really got me nuts, I know it's not going to be the same as playing a real one, but then I was at Gregs and he picks up his Bass and starts playing. Made me want a Bass and a guitar.

Bass is easy to play, but difficult to master. There are soooo many ways to play it. In my opinion, its the most personal instrument to play.

I would say grab a fender at a pawn shop. They are usually a dollar a dozen there. But I truely think you should have kept your accoustic. Cause you can throw it in yer back seat and fucks with it on yer lunch break and shit.

Nah nah, i can dig it man. I just sold my peavy six string to make rent. so...I gotcha on that. Im sayin an acoustic bass is pretty much the same shit, but you can take it anywhere, so see what you can do to snatch one up. But I like pedals. I use distortion, digital delay and wah. so Its really up to the user. I really hope you dont just learn covers. Its so much more releasing when you put time into making your own lines.

Well for me, it's just like playin guitar hero. Some great songs are on there and I'm 'playing' them. If I can learn a song like sweet child o' mine on a real guitar, I know that writing anything of my own is going to be soo much easier to do.

So I feel ya back on that. I'd write ballads if I could. But I need to get started on a guitar first. :p

Oh how surprised you will be when you try. Im just saying James, i dont know you too well, but I know you have some emmotions you need to release sometimes(like everyone) and your own bass lines will show people what they feel like.

Thats the foundation of metal my friend. Anger and sorrow. Unfortunately you and me have to relate to it so well. Why oh why cant life be a bed of roses. I only wish I was there to teach you what I know personally.

That's pretty much the reason I got into metal. My bands list keeps growing everytime I listen to the metal show on the radio station here. I can't thrash and headbang like you can because of constant migraines and shit like that, but I love listening to it. Hell half the songs I've bought on Guitar Hero II are metal songs from metal bands.

Lamb of God and Pantera are getting me through my current situation. They are the boat I use to float through my river of shit.

I think I bought a Lamb of God song on there too. Some of those riffs are insane. But it's frikken awesome to land them to me. Simple pleasures I guess. They're what make life grand.

Have you recorded anything you've written and played?

if you're going to go with a first guitar, I would get an acoustic. My first was a Yamaha...which was crappy, but hey it was my first. Then I got an acoustic Martin...b/c I wasn't able to put the other one down and I wanted something better sounding. Then I moved on to a fender electric. You can get a pretty decent Martin for $200...it's worth it to start out. I paid close to 600 for mine...and the fender was around 700.
