I just had the most bogus experience trying to by a six pack of Budweiser at Walmart. First off its partly my fault because I forgot my wallet but they told me I couldn't buy the Bud because I didn't look 40... Well for fucks sake I HOPE TO GOD I don't look 40... The age you used to have to look when I first turned 21 was 27 I guess and I heard the cashier say at the second place I bought beer that you had to look 30 which is kind of understandable. The thing the baffles me is the drinking age is 21... I know some teens will look older because of facial hair and what not but I don't think outrageous age guidelines are the answer... By the way I'm aging I won't look 40 even when I'm 40.... I'll be 30 in 2 damn years...

*wow* I wasn't evebn drinking when i posted this and i made alotta typos...

Indiana Alcohol laws

  • Can't buy or go to a bar to drink on Sundays
  • Can't buy it in gas stations ... yet I can drive 10 minutes to Ohio and buy cold beer in a gas station on a Sunday.
  • Can't sell cold beer under the same roof as cold soft drinks, one or the other has to be warm.
  • You must look at least 35 to purchase without being carded, unless of course you know the cashier and they know you.
The funny part is you go to a Speedway and they wear shirts embroidered with "We ID". Then when you buy a pack of cigs, they simply ask you your birthdate. What? LOL

Over here, the drinking age is 18.

Thing is, in the supermarkets and some newsagents who sell alcohol, there are notices that say you that if you don't look 21, you may not be served.

I don't get that at all, it's daft in my book.

If they don't think you are the legal age (18), fair enough asking for ID, but if you are 18, why be told you gotta look 21+????

They have recently put the smoking of cigarettes up to 18yrs from 16yrs of age too.

Well thats not bad... 18 isnt TOO far off from 21...

True, but if legal age is 18, 21 whatever, why the hell you gotta look older??? That's what I don't get, but I do agree with the way youngsters aren't easily able to buy it - maybe that's what it's all about then, but a legal age should be just that???

I can understand it b/c so many of these young girls look older than they are these days. It would be pretty easy for someone to "look 21" when they aren't. I can't remember what the signs say now, but my brother works at a convenience store and they have to ID everyone now b/c their other store got busted twice in 1 week selling to minors.

Yeah, no wonder the younger ones have some bad attitudes - they must get mixed signals too.

Not all of them though, are considerate enough to others or respectful of rules and regs, but those who are get labelled too.

It is definately a mixed bag of rules in most countries I think.

Btw - forgot to add earlier, that we can buy alcohol on a Sunday as long as it is by 4pm in supermarkets then off liscences open around 7pm where you can buy alcohol until about 10pm I believe.

But... 40?
