So I'm still working on the cd design for this dude and the dude sent him the wrong cd sleeve specifications so i made everything to the dimensions of the first sent and they're totally different from the jewel case dimensions he originally wanted. Which is not my fault. The dude should have caught the mistake before sending me the pdf files.

You don't have a disclaimer that says, any extra work require due to incorrect information will be at the clients cost ?

This of course being a fee you can waive at your discretion depending on work load or customer relationship.

I cannot speak for Dana since I don't really know him or how he runs his business, but it has been my experience that you just eat it and redo it. There are few things on contracts and on a less than shoe string budget. Most people are in that line of work to help spur the growth and independent music and taking more money from the bands pockets does NOT do that.

Perhaps, but Dana has been doing contract Design work of all types as his main income.

If someone was to get him to make a huge design and ask him to change the size from a Flag size to Page size would that be fair ?

If you run a business, you need to set conditions and also why I said it would than be at his discretion..

This is only my advice being in business..

Unless you have conditions stating otherwise..

I would agree with rback. Contact him just to mention that it was incorrect and it was his fault, but say you'll have no problem with fixing it the way he likes. Making a satisfied customer who will potentially bring you more customers is more important than trying to argue with him on whos right and whos wrong. Youve wasted time in doing this yes, but sometimes that's just how it is.

the problem we have here is that danas just starting up and trying to build a reputation, personally i'd contact them to emphasize the error on their part, then tell them that i would correct it this time...but next time there will be a charge

I have seen things done this way as well. Too much time gets lost deciding who fucked up and how bad. Time is money also and sometimes these things are run on tight deadlines with short turns around. It's a damn tough business to make a living at so I can appreciate his frustration. This stuff happens more off than not. Show lineups change, and a flyer HAS to be modified... It's the nature of the beast, but there DOES have to be limitations. Saying, "hey, I'll fix it this time, but we really need to proof the info I am given next time." is not a bad way to handle it.
