Growing grass from seed

Have any of you ever grew lawn grass from seed? I tilled up the ground and put on fertilizer and topsoil like I was suppose to. I guess what I am asking is how long does it take before you see results? I did all of this almost 3 weeks ago.

probably should see sprouts soon. My parents grew grass in their yard at one of the new houses they bought a long time ago...the grass takes a long time to get thick and actually look like grass. How often have you been watering it? And how much seed did you use?

I water it twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening. I do water it thoroughly. Seed, I spread enough for a 900sqft. yard. I only wanted half of my yard to have grass as the other part has decorative rocks and such.

You should have seen seed sprout within 5-10 days in your climate. Seems odd to go longer than that to me, but depends on the seed too I would imagine. Be careful not to over-water it.

You should probably invest in turf, rather than trying to grow your own. From my experience (not a lot - just a little) it comes up patchy & usually the seed is for fast growing grass which means that it needs frequent mowing as well.

I've grown many yards with grass seed and never saw a problem with it. I assum you put straw down also? The weather is really the big variable in seeing results. You won't have a full yard for a while, but you should certainly see results by now. Unless it has frosted since you planted, then you're screwed.
