group work (Sink or swim)

this is crazy! Project rough draft due tomorrow and being one of the three who is in this "group" had another group member come up to me today and asked what is needed to be done. well, shit pal, ever thought about coming to class? (I saw him once during a stretch of six classes) this kid just sent a paragraph (YES, FOUR TO SIX SENTENCES) about his two cents. he himself signed up to do a bunch of the project and when I showed him what he signed up for "I never signed up for that"......
the other I have yet to hear from but promised to send me something tonight....
sorry...bitch fest...

:mad:mad:mad:mad:mad:mad:mad:mad:mad

thank you for allowing me to spout off.....

I am of the mind that if your group members are unwilling to pull their own weight, there is NOTHING wrong with talking to the professor and saying you're willing to do the project solo (only if you mean it!) or asking to be placed in another group.

The point of working in a group, is not only to get the work done, but to be able to collaborate with others. Don't you think it would look bad for him if he went to the professor and basically said that he couldn't work with the other two or said they weren't pulling their weight? It doesn't matter the reason, if you don't get a group project done in the business world, your boss doesn't want any excuses.

It drives me nuts when I need to rely on others to get something done and they don't step up. I deal with it on a daily basis in the business world. The part that sucks the most, I have to stand in front of the customer and take all the heat when something isn't done. When someone in my company drops the ball, I'm the one getting my head handed to me. And if I ever started the conversation, "Well Mr. Jones, you didn't get your materials today and you need to send your workers home costing you thousands of dollars because Mr. White fucked up, it wasn't me" I would lose all credibility with that client.

I often experience having that kind of group members. I did tell the professor too that I'm having a hard time with my irresponsible and dependent group mates. I got stuck in the group but the prof gave us different grades since during the presentation, it showed they didn't know much about what we did since their contributions were merely research.

but sadly, it is not going to be presented to any class, the professor next semester will be building a web page for civil rights (the present class this is for) and using our stuff as "rough drafts" which he will be using the data that was found/used. so we are basically guinea pigs for his benefit.
