I live in the south. Let's all keep this in mind. I live in the south, in a very old house with no subfloor or insulation, and with lots of tress.

And if you live in the south I think you might know where I'm going with this.

Since I have moved into our house almost a year ago, I have seen only one roach that was alive and one in our utility closet that was dead (which is pretty damn good!). We sprayed for roaches on Sunday just as a precaution since roach season is coming up.

Monday I woke up, grabbed my clothes from my closet and went into the bathroom. I showered and after I dried off, I put on my shirt, grabbed my comb out the cupboard and started combing my hair.

All of a sudden, a roach landed on my arm!!!!! I don't know if it came from the comb, my hair or my clothes or what! Either way I freaked out and it took a LOT of self coaching for me to go in there and get my pants for work!

I am now sleeping in the living room and I check my clothes thoroughly before I put them on - I am a scaredy cat!!! I can't bare to go in my room!!

We get those obnoxious big black roaches. For some reason they like to get close to me. My wife and I were sitting on the couch together when I felt something on my leg. Sure enough a freakin' roach. As I am chasing it across the room with a shoe my wife is freaking out. We might see three a month but she gets crazy when she sees one.

I remember at the old house we were living it was wood floor... but under that was holes anyway it was perfect to come in the house and worse was the kitchen..
I used to go and get something from the fringe with out opening any lights..ok one day went to the kitchen open the fridge took what i wanted i think was water then i notice some cockroach in the kitchen ... ok close the fringe and went slow to open the light to kill the roach .. and that's when i saw a kitchen full of them.... my son was young at that time.... everyone was asleep ....all i thought then i can not let them get away and go to my son room ..i damn killed that day 15 of them ..
we used to have a lot in that house but not like this so many in one go .. .lucky me am not scared

now in this house we are we see some but not many at all but my cats take care of them i see little legs and other parts of the bodies around the house when i clean ..:24:

I think I might be able to help you a little bit with your problem.. :)

I live in an old cabin in the middle of the woods, and like your house, it has no subfloor or insulation, and it also has lots of holes... ~for the little critters to come in, I guess.. :D
This area is in a flood path.. we flood about 5-6 times a year, and we have crawl spaces under the houses to allow the water to flow through.

I'm glad we don't have roaches here, and haven't seen one in over twenty years... they are one of the few pests that really turn my stomach! :yuk

When I lived in NYC, I was in a constant battle to get rid of them until I met the exterminator my husband hired to keep the restaurant we used to own, free of them...
He taught me as much as he knew about bugs and fighting them.. so I'm passing on some of his facts and solutions:
- Roaches have been around for millions of years :eek ... we can only control where they won't live, but we can't exterminate them..
- You bring them and their eggs into your environment.. They hitch a ride in paper and plastic bags from the store.. as well as mail from the post office, the Sunday newspaper, and any package delivered to your home or business.. :(
- When you use poison all over the house, you are killing -without realizing it- many predators that help in controlling them..
- They live inside walls.. heat, cold or humidity makes no difference to them.. they adapt to anything.. and have been doing that for millions of years.. ;)
-You need to kill the queen inside the nest.. all of the females lay eggs, but she can lay a few million of them during her lifetime.. :eek

Ready to fight them??....

The only way is to use roach traps... lots of them!... and change them frequently.. They won't die inside the traps.. they chew the poison and bring it in tiny pieces into the nests to share with everyone!.. :D

Put them against the walls and in corners..
Inside kitchen cabinets.. where you have your dishes, pots and pans.. and also where you have food stored..
Inside closets.. In corners and floor, especially where you have your shoes..
Under the kitchen and bathroom sinks..
On shelves.. around, over and under books and decorations...

Hope you can go back to sleep on your bed after following these tips.. :p

On a side note: I was born in another country, and the few roaches I ever saw there, were big and black, and cross between the ugly water bugs we have here and something else..
My first experience with american brown roaches was the first night at the hotel after we arrived in NYC on our honeymoon... first we saw them in the bathroom -the bathtub, to be exact-... then we found them in the bed!.. :eek
Needless to say... we found another hotel in a hurry!. :p

I think you are talking about "Madagascar Roaches"... if you had ever experienced an invasion of little brown roaches, you would never say they are cool!!.. :p :24:

Ew. We don't have many roaches here. I've only seen two and they were down the street from my house.

Thanks Willow but I don't have a roach problem, this was just this one!

and ew fuzzy ew!!!

One night I was cooking at our old house...I think I posted this some where here...and I felt a tickle on my feet. I thought it was fur ball or something and didn't see anything so I didn't pay it no mind :)

Before I knew it the "tickle" was crawling up my jeans!!! I immediately started screaming and stripping. My roommates outside saw me through the kitchen window - they saw me run around screaming and then disappear to the back of the house. They came in to see what was wrong and all they found was my pants. :)
