grocery shopping

this has been a hotly contested issue here at the fuzz household. :24:

what do you spend at the grocery store and for how many people? yesterday i went to HEB and spent $129.00 but bought over 68 items. now mind you this is for a family of 4 and should last about 2 weeks.

i rarely go food shopping. i just make sure i'm stocked up on bread, soup, pasta, rice, watercress and grapes. there's always meat in the freezer from the few times we do go shopping. so i can make a proper meal occasionly if i want.

So when I do go, we usually spend about £60 split three ways

my mother used to feed the family on $100/week and she would occasionally splurge on something special during the week. but with us here we don't go shopping once a week, usually we would forget to pull something out of the freezer. we spend less though, because we went to a butcher shop and spent nearly $700 (last year) on beef and chicken we have eaten over the past year...and since beef is not on the shopping list it cuts down on the monies spent at the grocery store.

I spend about $100 a week for food and non-edibles (TP, laundry soap, toothpaste, etc.). Usually for 4 or more people. Depends who's coming to dinner. :)

I have 2 well-stocked freezers and the pantry is pretty well-stocked too.

now do you inventory this pantry? because God knows I have tried writing down what we have and I usually stop due to overstocking and serious cases of overbuying....

Yes. Yes I do. Alpha order. All cans/boxes must face forward for easy viewing. When I see that we are down to the last 2 of something.... it goes onto a list that is right inside the pantry door. Easy peasy. :)

I'm feeding a 12 year old boy, so, my grocery bill has gone up astronomically! (When he was younger it was so much cheaper!) He plays sports year round, so, he's always hungry. :ninja I purchase pantry items and refrigerator items at the grocery store... household goods- like cleaning products, personal hygiene products, etc., are never bought at the grocery store... as I find them to be over priced. Meat comes from the butcher shop, once a month. I do a big grocery shop every 2 weeks, with milk and bread runs weekly. I probably average $400 a month. :eek (For 2 of us.)

What I love is how I used to be able to purchase a 5 lb bag of sugar for .99. Now, it's 4 lbs for 3 bucks! :thumbdown

Family of two. About $50.00 per week and that includes the dry goods. Three days a week Mia is at the sitters but prior to going to the sitter, she has at least four rounds of breakfast. If she knows what the sitter is serving for breakfast, I'll skate by with serving her three breakfasts.

She reminds me of Merry, the Hobbit on LOTR where he asks Aragorn "What about second breakfast? What about thirdseys??" :willy_nilly:

For your family, I think you're doing damn fine! :D
