I was talking to my friend and somehow we got on the topic of Christmas. He told about how his cousin who is 10 didnt believe in Santa. My friend's dad asked "Do you believe in Jesus?" She said yes. Friend's dad replied "If you believe in Jesus, who made water into wine, what says Santa isn't real?"

For some reason I found this question very interesting. I have full faith in the Bible, but its still a good question IMO. Any thoughts.

Well religious people will argue that there is evidence that Jesus existed and history would tend to back it up though not as in as much detail. I don't think there is any evidence whatsoever that Santa is/was a real person.

I let my kids believe in santa because it is fun.

However, alot of what the bible says SEEMS to be untrue. There aint no real telling. You either believe or you dont.

Santa is a leap of faith, just as believing in the Bible is. Some people are just able to blindly believe things easier than others. Maybe someone told her Santa wasn't real, and she was ok with that. She gets presents just the same. Only reason she believes in Jesus is because she was told that as a child, and no one ever told her different. I dont see what the big deal with kids not believing in Santa after a certain age is, anyhow... Kids aren't dumb. They're gonna figure it out eventually. Let them believe it as long as they want to, but I wouldn't be all upset if my kids learned the truth.

One of the things that I raise in relevant conversations is that when our children are young, we tell them about God, the Easter Bunny & Santa.

Somewhere along the line we neglect to tell them that none of them are real.

I don't think Santa exists, its just an Imagination . But for those people who are cribbing all their lives that GOD doesn't exists should stay away from Kids .... They shud 1st try to be a good Human being and then start preaching others about GODS existence.

Afterall :

Nobody talks so constantly about God as those who insist that there is no God.

Well thank you Sam, I did not realise that being an atheist also made me a bad human being. I will work at trying to be a better human.

From now on I will tell all the little children not to worry or visit a doctor if they are sick as Jesus will cure them - all they have to do is have faith.

It's working, I feel like a better human already.

I will even start to believe in God - can you just let me know which ones are the best. Should I believe in the ancient ones like the Greeks, Egyptians, Phoneacians, Vikings (I'd love to go to Valhalla), Celts or should I stick with the more modern ones, you know, Allah, Yahweh, Buddha, Gaeia - or what about the Hindu Gods - Shiva seems pretty cool.

Here I am talking about God/s again - must be proof that I'm really a closet theist (funnily enough there's more proof for that than for any of the above Gods).

Sam, that's not very Christian of you. What would Jesus say about someone scorning others for thinking for themselves? I bet he wouldn't like that too much. I mean, it's not like I'm telling kids that there is no God at every opportunity, and when I do have kids of my own, I'll let them formulate their own opinions... I don't expect them to believe exactly as I do, or anyone else for that matter, they will be their own people, able to make ther own conclusions about life.

As allan said, which God should I believe in? I mean, there are hundreds to choose from! Each one claiming to be the one true God. After all, we are all atheists, I just believe in one less God than you. My real question is: If you were not told there was a God as a kid, would you make one up on your own? I mean, no one would believe in Santa if they weren't told he was real as a child. No one would even know the myth.

In addition, what does me not believing in God have to do with being a good person? It's not as if I go out and go against "God's Will" whenever possible. read my post in thishttp://www.offtopicz.net/11451-faith-religion.html thread if you don't believe me.

Oh, and next time, maybe you should avoid opening your close-minded mouth and give people a chance. I'm not saying you shouldn't believe in God, people have to feel as if their life has a purpose somehow... and God is the easiest outlet for that. But when you attack my personal beliefs and call me a bad person because of it, I believe I am allowed to stand up for myself. Hell, people like you are the reason I don't like religion in the first place. So thanks, I guess.

I could go on, but I really don't want to get on the mod's nerves. So until your reply:

Judge not lest ye be judged. Dick.

I think history has proven the existence of a Saint Nicolas which spawned the legacy of Santa Claus. But of course that story was twisted and turned into fantasy. Last time I checked there were no flying reindeer (of course, some of you hardcore evolutionists might argue that it's possible).

*Sits back and waits for someone to say that the Bible and Jesus were stories that got twisted into fantasy as well*

I believe that ALL the gods, are acually the same one. The book DID say that he comes in all forms. I think god isnt what the religions say he is. I do believe in him, but I dont think that I have to go to church and jump thru hoops to have a relationship with him. He is in my heart and I love him.

Too late Reaver, you already got on my nerves with this post...

it's not "Judge not lest ye be judged." It's "Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone." Now get your biblical quotes right. :D

Reaver I don't think I took your name or anybody's name in my earlier post ... But seems that you identified yourself in it... :)

And you are not the only one who did .... there are many here ...

Yes, I understand, but by following Allen's and my post with a comment about how you think people who dont believe in God are bad, directly after we said we do not believe in such a thing, it was implied that you were talking about Allen and I was well. Plus, I just disagree with you on the subject in general. Even if you hadn't mentioned me in particular, AND you weren't implying talking about me in particular, I would still stick up for the people you were talking about. No one deserves to be immediately shunned for what they believe in. And don't take this as me shunning you... I just disagree with you on this particular subject.

........

Actually both of those are in the Bible. Smart guy. : P

Oh yeah, Sam is definitely refering to me in his post.

It does not matter, though because I know that at least I have given my child options as she grew. I practically made her attend Religious Education & go to Sunday School but then also explained to her what I believe . It was up to her to make her own choice.

How many religious people can say they did this?
