Gov't Willing to say "sorry"

I was actually referring to Pudding Time's response .. but I agree. I don't exactly grasp the concept of what was going on really .. but I'm sure it was wrong.

White Australian men used to have sex with aborigial women and half white, half aboriginal kids would be the result. The government then used to go out into the tribes, snatch kids who looked like they were half and half, stick them in camps and teach them to be white. This went right on till 1970. The kids never saw their mothers again. One of my friends mum is one of these kids who are known as the stolen generation. I really recommend you watch the film "Rabbit proof fence" which is about this and based on a true story.

I read that much .. but I don't exactly undersgtand why they took them .. I mean, it doesn't make sense (course it's prolly just cause it didnt make sense).

All I can get from it is "don't fuck white people, or outside your race .. or we'll take your kids" .. which is kinda crazy that a government would care that much who you screwed.

That's pretty much it. There has been a lot of terrible racism in Australia which has somehow managed to be swept under the carpet a lot. Considering this was and is going on in a so called enlightened Western country and has stayed largely out of the news beggers belief!

i think that the word sorry would actually have a great deal more meaning and power if it was said publicly on australia day...that way it would be said not only to the aboriginal peoples of australia but the whole world would see it.

choosing a day to say it when the world isnt watching makes it meaningless and an insult

Apart form the Stolen Generation, and land rights issues. What other racist issues are going on in Australia?

Well apart from what I mentioned, I was shocked at how widely racism in Australia is accepted. The racist terms I heard on a regular basis were widely used by all sorts of people and didn't even seem to raise any eyebrows.

I know of the people I associated with. Terms don't mean shit. It's how you treat someone, not how you refer to them.

Apart from that, Aboriginies have been given chance after chance. So now those who are still drunk in the gutter, I have no sympathy for. They did it to themselves.

Dude are you serious?

Not that long ago there were riots all through Sydney to the point it was plastered all over the news that we are a racist country!

Its a tough label and I had friends ring me from the states not to make sure i wasnt getting beaten by a said riot that came within a street from my house, But to ask me if i really was a racist. (half these people too i might add all knew my mother is half mauori half aboriginal and beleived what they saw on television)

you know what the most fucked up thing about it all was?

the amount of actual Australians that started the riots was like 5% ....

I've also seen how Asians and Lebanese act towards Australians for no reason. Simply because they don't like us. I'm generalizing here, as not all Asians and Lebanese are like this. A lot of people from other races in Australia are just as bad. There's no point labeling all Australians as racists because of the actions of those dipshits in Cronulla. Just like we Australians don't need to be labeling others as racists because of their actions towards us.

I think this fits with the majority of white people as well (in regards to blacks in the states) .. but that's just not how it works most of the time. This world isn't perfect .. so un-perfect ideals and stereotypes .. are usually rampant.
