Dog leash goths 'hounded off bus'

A goth who leads his girlfriend around with a dog lead and collar was stopped from getting on a bus amid fears for passenger safety, a bus firm confirmed.
Dani Graves, 25, and his fiancee Tasha Maltby, 19, of Dewsbury, West Yorks, claim they have been discriminated against by bus firm Arriva Yorkshire.
The black-clad couple said they had been told to leave one bus and prevented from boarding another.
The bus firm said safety came first, but it was investigating the complaint.
Mr Graves told BBC Look North: "We're used to strange looks, we're used to comments.

"But we didn't expect it from someone like that. They're providing a public service. We had our bus passes, we did everything that you are supposed to do to get on a bus."
Miss Maltby said she came up with the idea to wear a dog lead, and said previous boyfriends had called her a "wierdo" when she suggested it.
The couple said they "loved each other to pieces" and the use of the lead was a "sign of trust".
Mr Graves said: "She's very animal like, she's kind of like a pet, as well as a partner."
He said he "does everything" for his girlfriend, including laying out clothes for her, feeding her and cleaning their house.
He said: "You wouldn't expect your cat or dog to do the washing up or cleaning round the house."
Firm apology
Bus operator Arriva claimed other passengers could be put at risk if the bus braked sharply.
Operations director for Arriva Yorkshire, Paul Adcock, said: "Arriva takes any allegation of discrimination very seriously and have interviewed the driver regarding Mr Graves' claims.
"Our primary concern is passenger safety and while the couple are very welcome to travel on our buses, we are asking that Miss Maltby remove her dog lead before boarding the bus.
"It could be dangerous for the couple and other passengers if a driver had to brake sharply while Miss Maltby was wearing the lead."
The company said it was writing to Mr Graves "to apologise for any distress caused by the way this matter was handled".

Re: Goths Hounded Of Bus

How stupid is that, if she had problems with the dog collar then she would have said something right?
People have fettishes like this and i know people who are like this it doesnt make them any different as people, it doesnt mean they arent going to pay for their bus fare and in the same sense people who dont want to see it should just not fucking look!

A discrimination suit from this would be absurd. In todays day and age anything and everything is a weapon.

It had nothing to do with the fact that something could have been used as a weapon... it had to do with her safety... well that's the story they are going with at least...

With that, I can agree... they have the right to ask her to remove the lead before boarding the bus which the article pointed towards...

The thing I found interesting... We had a thread about a woman being kicked off a bus for reading the Bible aloud... is this really any different?

The thing I see that is different is, that they wouldn't allow them on the buss while she was wearing the lead. But that goes to safety... nothing else... Providing the bus company is being honest... I don't know if they are or not...

This reminded me of a pic of the Goth couple who were on Amazing Race this past season. I guess there could potentially be a safety issue with the couple mentioned in the OP. I tend to think that they didn't want their image "tarnished" by the looks of them and so an excuse was conveniently thought of as to why they weren't allowed. Most discrimination is creative like that.

not really .. I can board a bus holding a dog leash in my hand and I'll bet not one person would say a word to me .. except maybe to ask wtf I had a dog leash and no dog for lol.

This is why I'm interested in the response from people who were against the woman reading the Bible aloud in a previous thread on the bus, what's the difference?
Didn't the report say that woman was being too loud or something when she was reading the bible? :dunno

i always take mine off before using public transport...but it is attached to my nipples:24::jk

peter ,for you i feel exactly the same as the woman reading the bible about this by the way.

whether this was a fashion statement or related to bdsm i dont know, but the goth community (hardcore at least) do practice bdsm as their preferred sexual activity.the laws concerning bdsm in the UK are very difficult and restrictive of civil rights.the law and the legal repercusssions for bdsm changed drastically after "spanner"
after "spanner" there was a legal precident for the age of consent in bdsm (over 18 and no way for anyone to give informed consent)this law also affected the tattooing of persons under that age.several 6 year sentences have been given to persons over 18 having consentual bdsm sexual activity.

I agree... but from what the article said... they would have been allowed on the bus if the lead was only in his hand... but it was the fact that it was attached to her neck. Not the smartest thing IMO.. a sudden stop potentially could have broke her neck :dunno

If it was just about their appearance, then they are wrong. But if it truly was about her safety, then they had every right to request that the lead be removed from her collar. But we will never know what the true intention was.........

I think they are very interesting but i have to believe they knew
what the majority of peoples actions and feeling would be like
its not like they didnt know and sure she could have gotten hurt
but im sure they didnt get put off the bus for that
ive seen stuff like that before and the majority of people dont like it
and its exile
i think she looks sexy but i think i would save it for indoors
