There's a Native heritage site just outside the city here and I went down there to wander around this afternoon. The birds were terribly shy but I managed to get a few decent pics.

American Redstart...I didn't get the shot I wanted of this one. These two were the best I got.

White Crowned Sparrow...This picture would have been better if I wasn't shooting into the sun. Birds don't pose where you want them to, though. free-happy-smileys-839.png

Some wildflowers. They are purple. :D I didn't even realize there was a fly sitting there until later. free-happy-smileys-839.png

Some scenic shots. The second one is the South Saskatchewan River.

you've certainly hit the ground running with that new lens.....but i would suggest a cheap tripod, that might help you big time

She has a tripod..... sitting at home. :D

Zirc it's great to see you enjoying your new lens. Makes a difference in interest level doesn't it. Birds are a hoot yes. Suggestion if I may. I don't know the features on your Nikon but if you have the option of using spot focusing use it when shooting birds.

Yeah, like Guyzerr said, I have a tripod. It wasn't cheap :p and I mostly use it for night photography. Are you suggesting one for shots like the flower pic? A tripod probably would have been useful for that one but when I'm hiking I don't really feel like dragging a lot of equipment around. I also don't see how a tripod would be practical for photographing birds.

This time I was concentrating on ISO. Did I get that right? :p

I don't know because I didn't check. The lighting looks ok so I assume whatever you used worked. For the most part only #2 looks a bit grainy. What caught my eye is the birds and the bee shots seem to be a little out of focus and that's why I mentioned using spot focusing.

The bee is out of focus because I wasn't focussing on it. :p I didn't even know it was there until later when I was looking through my pics. :ninja

Ok I'll buy that especially since I remembered you said that a few posts ago but then why are all the flowers out of focus?
