One of my favorite Bible stories is The Story of Job. God takes a bet with the Devil...you know, the God that should not even allow a Devil to exist, to totally fuck up a faithful follower just to test him. NO worries though, after passing he get a new family and twice a much livestock, a real reward from God. :clap

I love the bit how everythings ok because god gave him another wife and kids. Dunno about you but if my wife was killed over a gamble, even if I remarried, I'd still be very pissed off and grieving for my first wife, to put it mildly!

The story of Job is a contradiction to the concept of free will...not just that...the whole story is a contradiction to God as I understand Him!

I think Job was written while the Hebrews were exiled in Babylonia. Before that time, the Hebrews believed God rewarded good people and punished bad people. Now they found themselves being punished and they couldn't understand why. Time to change their theology. Job was a product of this struggle. It's a terrible story but the Hebrews were going through a terrible time. Imo, Job fails to explain why bad things happen to good people. Although to be fair, there isn't a good explanation. Shit happens.

It's easy... terrible times are God testing your faith. Hang in there and you'll be rewarded, in this life or the next. Now we just need the suckers to believe it, and you can support me (the preacher) and the church that supplied you this message, lol. ;)
