i can just see it.....'and god took away jobs 6 pack of bud'

What is very interesting in the process is that God is absent from any discussions. You've got a group of men sitting around discussing this stuff as if they are working with facts but more significantly there is also the "agenda". The agenda, you ask? Maintaining the position of being God's mouthpiece is more important than any thing else.

Really? I don't know. When I was a kid I went through the confirmation at my Church (Presbyterian) and I don't recall that ever being mentioned. There is a lot of read the book and interpret as you will. So the Bible was based on ancient scripts, and apparently the Quran was written as a book if I can believe one of our posters, but where does the proof show up that these books are any different than Beowulf? Something you feel does not quite qualify as proof. :)

you totally misunderstand me. :p

I wasn't comparing the Book of Job to Beowulf, I was comparing how the class approached the Bible - not as a prophetic book, but as a piece of literature

Didn't Job have loads of wives? Maybe god just hates mormons.:D

Dude God loves Mormons - they are the next Jews. Stephanie Meyer - Mormon. And she's making tons.

There are other examples I of course just can't think of them now....:(

You misunderstood me a little. I was not trying to say that was what you were doing. I was just saying on my own that the Bible has no more validity than Beowulf. Hugs. :)

If you were not kidding, making piles of money is not an indication of divine love, darl'n. :)

If someone killed my children and then offered me replacement children, I'd have a few choice words for him and it wouldn't be praise. I've heard of parents giving a child a replacement puppy when their dog dies. But come on, replacement children? You've got to be kidding!

The belief in the supreme father, the act of "worship" maximizes the value of the "creator" and minimizes the value of the worshiper, which becomes less than a second class citizen. This is why the story of Job resonates with believers. Walk all over me and if I still love you, you'll reward me in the afterlife. I'm a little uncomfortable with that relationship. ;)
