God without religion.

How do we know God is synonymous with religion? It seems to me religion was created by man during the last great ice age and we had every reason to do so! Just look how shitty our living conditions were...

Anyway, what do you all think? The Bible was written by and INTERPRETED by man, so what can be said about God if he is just here, and not a savior?

What are you opinions?

It seems to me man can have no concept of God without religion. As soon as you create a concept of God you have created a religion. But religion is not synonymous with God. Some Buddhist religions have no god. However I think a religion must include a supernatural belief of some kind. Imo, a "religion" without any supernatural beliefs is best called a life stance or a philosophy.

I agree, the belief always seems to involve worship and tribute, though I would imagine deism could be one exception, if the person shares the demeanor of their god :D

I think people can believe that there is a God of some sort without having to be part of some religion. The religion bit, to me, is a group of people who make up rules and tell you how you should be living your life. I think people could believe in a God but trust there own judgements on how to live and behave

First came God in the mind of man, the Earth, Nature and the cycle of life. Religion is human's creation, an attempt to explain how our surroundings came to be, to officially identify God, and to assign attributes to it, including what it expects of us. Note that God started out as a "she" the giver of life and later was converted into "he" as men decided that was more appropriate (as in power wielders). There could be a God who is completely oblivious to us humans as individuals. But we believe we are separate, more advanced, above the beasts, therefore we have a connection with an intelligent deity who resides above us with immense power. The immense power is our attempt to explain everything around us as if it all must be the result of a God, but instead, it could just be completely beyond our comprehension. Understanding if it is to come at a God's level would have to be realized on another level, after we pass from this life onto the next phase/plane of existence. But there are no guarantees. Physical death could be eternal oblivion. However my vote is against it. ;)
