Giving Birth

If you had to make a choice between a natural birth or a C-section what would you pick?

If there were no medical reason/complications, you could give birth naturally but you had the option of a c-section, would you take it?

I have a very strong opinion about this, but I think I'll wait to hear what ya'll have to say as I don't want to offend anyone.

This is following a discussion with a group of my girlfriends

Natural birth, all the way. That's what I want and hope for anyway, but I do understand that sometimes, you don't get a choice. That's why I don't get all this birth plan stuff that seems so popular. You can have preferences, sure, but until you actually go into labour, who knows?

Ideally, I would like a natural birth with no drugs. I can't have an epidural, I have a needle phobia so putting a massive needle in my spine isn't going to relax me!

I guess I can see why some women would think a c-section is better but I don't want that for myself. I want to actually experience it, even if it hurts like fuck.

Personally, no I wouldnt take the option....and thats after giving birth naturally 3 times....no drugs...nothing....and the last time at 39 years young.:willy_nilly:

I shall sit back and see too, as I have some strong opinions on it as well....especially those that plan a C section so as to optimise a "baby bonus":mad

I gave birth only once. My plan was to get an epidural and enjoy the ride. Ummm... baby had other plans! I got to the hospital just in time... for no meds! :willy_nilly: Natural child birth hurt like all holy get out, so, I never had another. :eek

I definitely would not opt for a C-Section if it wasn't medically necessary.

If one didn't have to have a MAJOR surgery that a C-Section is..... with all the complications involved.... why the hell would they?

I, too, had both my babies naturally... no drugs..... nothing.

I'm thankful that all went well and of course recovery was a snap. :)

Well mine was to be natural the birth ...no epidural but what ever there other drugs .. anyway plans turn different i had an emergency C- Section
the baby was Breech.. but they didn't know at first they thought was ok when they were checking they thought was the head but actually was the cheek anyway when they notice not even 15 minutes i was ready for the C-Section .. i remember nothing lol i was full asleep usually you are wake up most of the time but i don't know maybe have to do that was very close and was not much time...

so if i had another i wont mind a C-Section but i will like to be asleep again :D

anyway no more kids for me so maybe that is why i don't think about it that much ..

Ok, so I agree with all of you here.

The discussion I had with my girlfriends got me really fired up and frustrated because they could just not see what I was saying.

A friend of mine has recently given birth, she is a tiny wee thing and the baby was big so we thought beforehand that maybe she would need to have a c-section. In discussing this my girlfriends all said that if given they choice they would pick a c-section over natural delivery, because:

a) they don't want to tear, down there
b) they don't want to deal with the pain
c) it's quick and 'easy'

When my friend went in to labour one of my friends said 'we will be wishing for a c-section for you'

I have never given birth, but I have been close with 2 women who have given birth naturally and 2 women who have given birth by c-section. Ultimately I believe you do what needs to be done to get the baby out safely. I do NOT think that giving birth by c-section is a 'failure' as, sadly, I know some women do.

However, for someone to chose a c-section when it is not needed seems completely senseless to me!
From what I have seen, after a c-section the new mother can not bend over and pick her baby up. She needs help with everything for the first week. It is, at the end of the day an operation! You run the risk of infections and post-op problems. Our bodies are designed damn well and whilst there may be pain, pooping, tearing whatever why the hell would you want to mess with that?!

You got a $2000 bonus from the governent here for having a baby....but it was only until a certain date....so pregnant women planned their C sections early, so as to get the baby bonus.

I find it funny that they would prefer a permanent scar on their tummy, than risk the discomfort of "tearing down there"...which heals and leaves no scars.

Like in every surgery everyone body is different i was out of the hospital in 4 days as at that time most were out in a week .. i was up in the hospital and walking the next day .. yes it hurt but only when you try to sit down and get up and yes you need to be careful but still can do a lot when i went home not only look after the baby but was cooking and washing dishes .. you need help with cleaning the house and you can not lift a lot of heavy stuff for a while but a normal birth can be hard too in the first days at home also..

funny also is what after that money finish this money does not last long but some that do this just to get it they didn't care a lot about the babies after ..

I had the epidural and it was good. HK, I was freaking about it before hand cuz I too hate needles and it's a doozy. Plus they stick it right at the place where my disc got screwed in a fall in 92 so I worried it might not be right where it should and something could happen. But, PS kept me brave & the dr nailed it like he should and the rest went quite well. :cool

Kudos to all the women before me who went natural. I'm a wimp. Tho I did wait longer than my girlfriend who'd given birth a couple of months before me. She was really a wimp :D

I have wondered at times - since I was 35 - if I should have had the Csection. But what's done is done.

With me we had all planned to have Liam naturally but with an epidural with my two degenerative discs in my back they wanted to minimize the stress on them.

Liam and my pelvis had other plans.. and I ended up having an emergency C-section.. Which I really really didn't want but after 20 hours in labour I had to do what was best for Liam...

I also ended up back in the hospital with a horrible infection (Thank you Audra for pushing me telling me it was an infection) I was in for another 4 or 5 days on IV antibiotics and then having to have my incision packed for another 8 weeks till it healed properly.

C-sections should only be a last resort unless there has been on in the past and there is a chance of rupture. I know my OB says I have the chances of me needing one the next time I get pregnant are about 80%. :(.

I was told at a young age I would never have children but Mia had other plans and my life is so much more blessed because the doctors missed on that count. I had to have an emergency c-section but I did plan for a natural birth at the onset.

oh man! this is one subject where i have VERY STRONG views and opinions about!! i had them before i got pregnant and even more so now that ive given birth! so....fair warning! :)

i am 100% wholeheartedly against c-sections and medication UNLESS MEDICALLY NECESSARY. the womans body was made to birth a child!!

and if one more person makes the STUPID ASSUMPTION about "messing it up down there" :willy_nilly::willy_nilly::willy_nilly: stupid stupid stupid!!!!

it literally boils my blood when i hear of a woman who just found out shes pregnant (usually at 7-8 weeks along) and has already determined "csection and drugs all the way please!" i know, not my body and not my choice, doesnt matter what *I* think. but TBH, i will look at said woman with huge judgement and think of her as less of a woman. again, sorry! thats just how i feel! again, a womans body was mad to birth a child

you can also prevent tearing, prepare the area for the birth and also learn to control the muscles with perineal massages. also helps with yearly exams too!!

ok, my two cents. i gave warning at the beginning. flame away! :)
