Getting a new PC any suggestions?

Still confused. Are you looking for a completely new pc build for under $1000, a new pc build but spending up to $1000 on the processor or just looking for a new processor under $1000?

I get that he needs the entire new computer, minus all the extremities such as monitor, mouse, speakers, etc.

There are a lot of good deals out there…and unless you are a VERY EXTREME gamer, you can easily find an excellent computer for under $1000. I know Dell’s are priced right but I would steer clear of them. I have had many bottom end Dell’s at work, and they all suck. If you would build up into a bigger system then you should be ok…just make sure you DO NOT get a Celeron, and make sure you get plenty of memory…not only RAM, but video memory as well.

Of all the computers I’ve owned I have to say IBM is the best. They are more expensive…but their warranty and support is 2nd to NONE! I currently have an HP at home which has been excellent for me. I got it last Christmas, and have not had one problem with it.

Again, if you are not a VERY extreme gamer, just make sure you get an actual Pentium 4 processor, and upgrade your RAM and video, you should be fine. I do say VERY extreme gamer because my system at home does great with SIMS and other games that my son plays. I’m sure there will be some extreme gamer that can find one that doesn’t play well, but none so far.

You should have no problem finding a great computer for under $1k….Good luck!

two words Wal-Mart

NO!!!!

Well, maybe I am jumping the gun, but all the systems I’ve ever seen at Walmart are pre-packaged deals. They are NOT upgradeable, even if you knew what you were doing. The hardest thing to do is upgrade an integrated video card…darned near impossible!!

You want to get online to Dell, IBM, Gateway, HP, or even go to a local PC shop and have them build you one. Start with their barebones system (make sure to start with actual Pentium and NOT Celeron) and then have them upgrade a few things.

If you get those pre-packaged deals you are lucky if you can add RAM later on….LoL!! You definitely want to stay away from the pre-packaged deals. So even though I LOVE Wal-Mart…this is one time to stay away!

By the way - Wal-Mart is one word....loL!!!! :rofl :rofl

I agree on the "don't get a dell" factor. I have a Dell Laptop, and although it's a pretty nice one, It's still not the best. I had a LOT of problems with it when I first got it, but after my mom's friend worked on it and replaced some parts, its' been pretty decent.

What kind is it Slo? I have an Inspiron 5150, and I have only had 1 problem with it. It would overheat and shut off ALL THE TIME. Especially whenever I tried to play a game or have lots of windows open at the same time. To fix that just buy some air duster and spray off the CPU. It collects dust causing it to overheat.

When I go off to college I am getting a new Alienware Area51-m. Mucho awesomeness.

If you dont know exactly what you want, consult a pro. No not at Best But or Comp USA or a chain store. I suggest you look aroud and talk to your freinds who are the computer Geeks and ask what is right for what you want. Like if your just wanting to surf the net and download porn and music then a dvd burner and alot of Ram maybe needed. Most likely your everday run of the mill AMD or pentium will do. If your looking to play games and stuff online then you want alot of Ram (memory) and a high powerd Video controller card with a some built in ram there also. If your needing other stuff like for business or home office use then an efficient running pc with plenty of hard drive space, and ram. I have found that the most reliable PC's over the years have been made by Compaq.

we got a compaq that doesnt recognize the cd drives...:wtf

whats wrong with celery's?

abit found a "flaw" in that the early socket 370 celerys could be paired up... intel said it couldnt be done, but apparently it could... i got a board with 2 procs on the abit bp6, but i havent tested it

alienware area51-m.... nice.. :rock
