A little Gateway that my husband inherited from our son, with Windows Me, in 2001.. I don't even know the specs, but it couldn't have had more than the minimum that any computer from 1998 could had as far as memory and disk storage at that time..

By the end of 2004, I knew nothing about computers, and was so afraid of it, I didn't even know how to turn it on!.. :p

I had never learned to type either... and I am still doing it with two fingers.. :D

One day I decided that it was time for me to get onto the 21st century, so I sat in front of it... and had no idea what to do!.. I was shaking so bad, I thought that if I pressed the wrong button it would explode or something.. :willy_nilly:

I found the instruction booklet.. ~I'm thinking that probably those were the last computers that came with instructions :p~ so I started from the first page, and following instructions managed to turn it on and somehow figure how to get online... The rest is history.. :D

I had an intense dislike for the idea of using a computer in my line of work. My partner and I went in business in 1989. Our first purchase was a 286 generic machine with a monochrome monitor maybe 12". A full 20 meg hard drive and loaded with a software we needed for $5000.00. :24::24:

I am glad I took those baby steps now. I am glad you overcame your fear as well. Keep posting.

:) I'm getting curious now.. I have to look for that booklet to see what mine had..
I seem to remember seeing 56 MB somewhere.. it might have been the amount of memory.. :p

A friend upgraded that computer to an XP Pro a few years later, using his business license and keys.. He also added a new HD and more memory..
It works great, but after about a year with that OS, good old MS kept popping out a message that the computer was using pirated software!.. :eek

He and I knew it couldn't be true, and we set up to fix that.. It turned out that somehow, the numbers had been stolen from his office and were making the rounds on the internet..
I got fed up with the whole thing and stopped using it..

Someday, I will probably get Linux on it, and teach myself to use that.. :D

That computer is sitting right at the end of my desk and I just measured the monitor.. It is 11 1/4 x 8 1/4.. :p
I know the price was $2000.00 when new, because we helped pay for it... ;)

Around 1995 I decided my kids needed a computer and printer for home I went and bought the top of the line Pentium 1 machine with a 1.6 gig HD and a 15" monitor and a printer. I also bought a computer desk. Spent between $3000 & $3500 on that grand scheme. Windows 95, HP, & Compaq combined to almost kill me. 3 computers later and a temper tantrum in Circuit City they gave me a store credit to spend on a new machine. I bought a Sony mini-tower with a pentium 2 processor. It was bullet proof even upgraded to a Pentium 3. All later purchases were thru Dell until the last few laptops.

Linux I am not brave enough to attempt.

What would be your idea of the perfect vacation?

Oooohhh... My perfect vacation... *dreaming now*...

Imagine an idyllic place like The Garden of Eden... A place without computers , telephones , television, cars or noise...
And no humidity or mosquitoes...

Lots of gorgeous, fragrant flowers... plants... trees... su10.gif
Sun rays streaming through the trees..

A diversity of edible fruit and vegetables, ready to be harvested whenever I wanted...
Cool water cascading from waterfalls, to quench my thirst...

Animals of all kinds... not afraid of humans.. eating from my hands..
Butterflies and hummingbirds fluttering around me...
Beautiful birds singing to me from those trees...

Long, slow expeditions to magical corners of this garden, on the backs of gentle giants... elephants... tortoises.. lions and tigers..
..~ what?!.. it's my dream vacation and I can dream it any way I want!~..

Natural hammocks between the trees, made of soft branches, leaves, moss and flowers, where I could lay down and watch the moonlit sky and the falling stars...

Ahhhhhhh.... Heavens!!!!...

flirty10.gif

... Oh... yesss.... my hubby.........

Laying down on the sofa... in our living room in NJ... with his TV remote control surgically and permanently attached to his right hand...
Eating junk food and drinking soda.. snack10.gif
Empty bags strewn on the coffee table... and empty cans on the floor..
Snoring and fighting the mosquitoes because he forgot to close the door tight...... again.... 14762310.gif

hmmm....let me ask u, if u feel broken "emotionally" how do u cope with da day?

I've been emotionally broken many times, and I rely on my spirituality, angels and strength to cope with it..

I'm a very spiritual, but not religious person..
I've been a Reiki and Seichim Master since 2004, and my life changed a lot since then..

I was raised in a strict catholic family.. I still have my faith and beliefs, they will be in my heart and part of who I am forever.. but haven't been a practicing one for many years..

How many kids and grandkids do you have?

I have four adult "kids"... My son is 39, and my daughters are 30, 34 and almost 37.. :)

I have three grandchildren... A granddaughter that is 11, her sister will be 17 in a few days, and a grandson who is 3..

Around the middle of January of 2012.. if everything goes well... I will have a fourth grandchild.. :D

Can you maybe share about your granddaughter you're so proud of this week? :D

I could write for days about Cassie!!.. ♥
She is my 17 year old granddaughter and is an extraordinary child.. she is also as sweet as honey... ♥ ♥

My daughter was 18 when she got pregnant.. Her boyfriend ..-who I never saw in my life, or I would have killed with my bare hands-.. beat her up when he found out about the pregnancy.. She ended up in the hospital and had a miscarriage..
On the day she was being released, one of the resident doctors decided to do another sonogram... and lo and behold.. he found another tiny fetus!... she had been carrying twins and had lost only one baby.. the other one was safe!!!.. :)

We moved her back with us, and I helped her take care of Cassie after she was born, so she could go to work to support both of them..
My granddaughter was with me constantly for the first six years of her life.. I wrote something on another thread a few days ago, about her being mine and my veterinarian's assistant in a teaching program we had, when she was three years old... ;)

When she was eight, she had heart surgery to correct some problems she was having with tachycardia..
During the two years before the surgery, she showed everyone what she was really made of!!..
The EMT's had to be called on a very regular basis, and she would try to calm THEM down when they were having trouble normalizing her little heart... She would do the same with school teachers and students, if the tachycardia would happen while she was at school!!. :p

She is a very good student, and is finishing her junior year in high school... She is planning on becoming a veterinarian to keep my program going.. ;)

She also started training last summer, in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and other MMA stuff that I don't even recognize.. and is doing great!..
She is very petite, and trains with a bunch of big guys that make her look even smaller than she is!!.. :D

Because there are not too many women doing what she is doing.. on her first competition she was paired with a girl that had lots of advantages over her.. That girl had more experience and was a lot taller and heavier than she is, but Cassie stood her ground and got second place.. ;) :):thumbup
Last weekend she placed first in one division and second in two others.. :clap :):thumbup

There you have it, in a nutshell... I could keep writing, but I won't, or this post would exceed the maximum number of characters.. :p:D

When i dated a guy last year who was a local champion/competitor of MMA, i saw the advantage and beauty of joining. Tried it but as you said it was quite intimidating given most that does this kind of thing are big dudes. Whilst, I like it a lot, i've always been putting it on the side. However, after seeing that site of Cassie, she became an inspiration to me. I am currently looking for MMA classes in my area. Wish me luck ;)

And of course Kudos to Cassie :)

Question: given the many trials you've surpassed, what had kept you going to be the strong, kind, sincere, trustworthy woman that you are. I mean most who had been through a lot or been lonely become bitter and take out what's missing in their life and their anger against innocent others. What's your secret?
