Gazza held after hotel incident
Former England footballer Paul Gascoigne has been detained under the Mental Health Act following an incident at a hotel in Newcastle. Northumbria Police said a 40-year-old man was detained following a report of disorderly behaviour at the Malmaison Hotel early on Wednesday.
Officers later visited Mr Gascoigne at Gateshead's Hilton Hotel after concerns were raised about his behaviour.
Police said he was not in custody and was now receiving medical treatment.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Police attended the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead yesterday evening after we received a report of concern for a 40-year-old man staying at the hotel."
"The man was detained under the Mental Health Act, and no-one was injured during the incident."
Gascoigne has battled for some time with alcohol and health problems.
In January 2005, he was hospitalised with pneumonia and last year he underwent emergency surgery for a perforated stomach ulcer after being taken ill as he was celebrating his 40th birthday.
He was arrested for an alleged assault on a photographer outside a Liverpool city centre hotel in 2005. The charges were later dropped.
A former player with Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Lazio, Glasgow Rangers and Middlesbrough, he was sacked after 39 days as manager of Kettering Town in 2005.
He was capped 57 times for England.

He's been back and forth so much over the years.

Didn't he get violent with his ex wife too?

I htink they will have to section him to make any changes, but maybe they won't do that, which will do him no good at all.

He obviously has an addictive gene, as do so many people - that's the problem. :(

Oh, didn't know that - not had chance to watch tv apart from a bit the other night, but wasn't when the news would have been on.

Last i heard on news, was that they could order him sectioned if they feel the need, so wasn't sure what happened.

Well, maybe this time something will work eh? Mind you, it didn't work for best did it, whether he was sectioned or not (if sectioned).

I can never remember the ins and outs with a lot of these people, there are so many nowadays.

being sectioned is worse than a prison sentence ,they can keep you there indefinately, and given his violence in the past that may happen:(

Hummm, it's mixed feelings, but then again, he hasn't been able to cope outside of there either. This is the last resort by the sound of things. I heard on the news, that if he was sectioned, it could be up to 6 months, but don't know how true that is and if it could infact be longer? :(

It'll be touch and go I reckon, if he makes it or not, to change and am sure he will get all the professional help there is.

Depends on how serious is, from what I gather, depending on the seriousness, the'll section him for 28 days and then review his state after that.

Oh, I see - I suppose they didn't have all the info at the time I heard about him on the news, so will see.

He also has OCD, he was on a chat programme a few years ago, which was when it was brought up. Not that that has anything to do with it, other than OCD is essentially a stress thing.
