Gates, Buffett call on billionaires to give it all away

Yah but we sell it at a minimum cost ( low time of day ) and buy some of it back at premium ( peak ).. I see problems here..

Maybe you have a point and it should be free and giving it away, so I agree... :D:D
I say we overcharge the Americans and give it away free to Canadians. Payback is a bitch. :D

what's wrong with his hair? I fancy getting mine done like this.

I imagine you reach a point where you realize you have much more than your fair share and it's impossible to justify that you deserve all of it. I think it's a great idea. Also it's hard to believe an inferior OS won the war. ;)

you have to take your hat off to Mr Gates, he actually seems like a really nice guy, hair problems and all.

Gates and Ballmer though are seriously astute businessmen: licensing their products in the way they did was a stroke of genius, from DOS right through to Windows 7, they saw the advantage of shifting quantity rather than quality.

To suggest that he got more than his fair share is to suggest that he came by it unfairly, meaning dishonestly. Who did he cheat.

And the OS didn't win the war, the marketing did. The weird thing is that everybody and their brother knew Apple was better and that they were shooting themselves in the foot.

No, it's to suggest that morality if you have any would make it apparent to someone like Bill Gates that he has way more than he needs. It's a luxury for a very small minority to come to this realization, but I still applaud giving the excess away.

As far as Apple you are right, it was marketing and Apple's insistence on control and asking a higher price for their product doomed them to second class status in the early 1990s. Although the Mac product was definitely superior, $2400 for an Apple IIe was a luxury price for a pc and that kind of pricing continued with the Mac line.

You changed phrases. I think the second one is far more accurate. Gates did not have more than his fair share, because he contributed more, in astronomical proportion, than the average guy. But he absolutely has more than he needs. Hell, he has more than most nations need :D. I like the idea of him giving it away if he so chooses. It really irks me that he & Buffett don't believe others should have the right to do the same, and that the gov't should take it from them and redistribute it for them.

OK so now that they made a big story out of this.. Will they give it all away or is it just what they make this to be, head line grabbing..

And if they "Gave it all away" what do you suppose "All would mean to them".. The money or everything, including stock options, bonds and any value assets including offshore banking they may have.

Do we all really think they could live like paupers ?
