Accountable: I know right, like it's their performance throughout the whole year that's important. Well at least it's possible to retake the SAT multiple times I'll give em that.

GoatCode: Hmm well that makes me feel better haha. But still. Too much stress man.

Ok so as a junior in highschool, this year is very stressful. I have the SAT, a standardized writing and science test, the georgia graduation test, and EOCTs on top of that.

Now I'm not just randomly bitching. If you notice, there is an obvious consistency. What determines my future and my academic success seems to be based on standardized testing. Well let's see now there are so many intelligent people who are simply not good at test taking. They know the material they need for their classes and yet they have to stress and gamble everything on these god dammned standardized tests.

America needs to revamp it's education system and not rely on these standardized tests. Evaluate the students' skills in other ways. Grade them in other ways. Sure, we can still have regular class tests but please don't make it count for so much. It should be used as a tool for teachers to see what students need to learn.

So who's with me?!
Welcome to reality. Wait until you get to college/university. Things that don't even have to do with your major that you'll have to take/do increase tenfold.

Yea, it's a load of garbage in my opinion. Paying for a semester of useless classes is a waste of time and money.

My major that I am pursuing, for example, involves no math. In fact, anything to do with math which I will encounter in my job will never be more difficult than elementary arithmetic. The college, however, saw things differently and made me take 3 math courses which I will never make use of. Ever.

Overall the three books over the span of the 3 classes cost me about $450 dollars.

Colleges and Universities are businesses first, "learning" institutions second. Well, if you can even call it learning. Higher education is more about just getting you ready for a job, not actually enlightening anyone like it used to be.

I almost hate to admit it, but some of those useless classes have turned out to be the most valuable to me over the years.

Well, here are the classes I consider useless, because all students at my school have to take them, regardless of major.

Introductory Seminar
Composition 101
Composition 102
Speech
A Math class
Social Problems

That's a semester, if not more of classes. I know how to write, so composition classes were a waste of time. Introductory seminar was another complete waste, they just gave tips for college, which were common sense. Social problems was alright, but still felt like one big busy work class. I didn't have to take Comp101, Speech, and math, because I got credit for them in high school.

The thing is, if you need the extra help in English and Math, then you should definitely be allowed to take those courses. However, if I already possess those skills, than it's just hundreds of dollars on textbooks and additional time in the way of me getting my degree.

I sucked at math in high school. It clicked in college ... almost 20 years later.

The one class I avoided until very last, Art History, was surprisingly fulfilling.

I agree with what a lot of people say here...I have testing anxiety. It's not only for written tests but basically anytime I'm competing I freeze and my mind goes blank. I didn't even TAKE the SATs and I had no problem finding a college. I do agree though...when I was in highschool (God uh...six years ago) our grades were determined in fifths...one grade for each quarter and our final, which counted as much weight to our grade as a whole quarter of work. I think that's bullshit. Soon you'll be free and then the real fun begins. ;)

I understand that people has panic attacks ect when taking tests but there really isn't a better way to grade kids, especially where it's written work. When I was at school there were no exams for english and it was all coursework. As a brainy kid at school, it didn't take me long to realise I could make a load of money doing other, not very bright kids, coursework for them.
