Free Trade Agreements- Good or Bad?

I'm sorry, come back to me on this one when you have actually learned what selfishness means.

Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead contained in two paragraphs:

[FONT=Times New Roman, Times, serif] “A man thinks and works alone. A man cannot rob, exploit or rule—alone. Robbery, exploitation and ruling presuppose victims. They imply dependence. They are the province of the second-hander.
“Rulers of men are not egotists. They create nothing. They exist entirely through the persons of others. Their goal is in their subjects, in the activity of enslaving. They are as dependent as the beggar, the social worker and the bandit. The form of dependence does not matter.
“But men were taught to regard second-handers—tyrants, emperors, dictators—as exponents of egotism. By this fraud they were made to destroy the ego, themselves and others. The purpose of the fraud was to destroy the creators. Or to harness them. Which is a synonym."

Selfishness - n. Being concerned only with one's own interests. Living for yourself only.

A dictator lives vicariously through others. He does not live for himself, and he cannot live by himself. He is not concerned only with himself, he is concerned with how others view him. That is being second-hand. He has no self - therefore, he is not selfish.

You do realize that it's possible to prove anything with statistics?
Plus, have you ever thought about attributing this - assuming it is real - to their work ethic?

Sweden, Norway, Finland. They have no labor issues, no poverty, they live longer, they live happier lives, the have the lowest infant mortality rate, some of the largest companies in the world are from there. They have thriving industry and economies. Where are they problems? What about Canada, they have problems, but their economy is doing find. UK, France, Spain, Germany (although they have some social unrest issues) all have higher standards of living than we do.

selfishness is a virtue

Maybe you were thinking of: :)

Short version Gordon Gekko in Wall Street: "Greed is good!"

Long version: The point is ladies and gentlemen that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of it's forms - greed for life, for money, knowledge - has marked the upward surge of mankind and greed - you mark my words - will not only save Teldar Paper but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA. Thank you.
