It's not really about hiding and shooting a deer .. it's about shooting a fast moving target .. the dogs herd the deer and run them towards you .. so the deer is in high "fight or flight mode" and is galloping as fast as it can .. hoping, darting, and trying to evade capture (by the dogs) .. some hunters use bows instead of guns to bring down a dog herded deer.

It's not about being easy or hard .. it's just a different approach basically.

Thing is .. no one "really" needs to hunt for food anymore .. all hunting/fishing is for sport.

we are talking about in the US .. but IMO if you can afford a gun and ammunition ... you can go to the grocery store and buy some grub.

I've never seen this type of hunting, though I'm not saying it doesn't happen. Seems strange to me. Why on earth would you want to shoot at a moving target? That's ridiculously hard. Unless you are within 50 yards and have a full automatic assault rifle, which are designed to shoot at moving targets. Hunting rifles are not designed to shoot at moving targets. They are designed to use a large caliber bullet for stopping power, and also for accurate long range shots.

Every time I see dear hunting on TV, the hunter is either perched in a tree waiting, or in a camouflaged hiding spot on the ground. He waits for the dear to appear, then takes a long range shot for the kill. Never seen them with dogs.

And I sure as hell wouldn't try and shoot a dear that's bounding around with my dog chasing it. I wouldn't want to miss and kill my dog.

they don't show it on TV .. because it's against the law lol .. duh

The dogs are usually no where near the deer .. deer can run faster than the dog .. the dogs just keep the deer moving in a general direction .. they fan out and bark (otherwise known as baying).

I don't know "why" they do it .. I just know they do it. I live in AL .. they do all sorts of crazy shit here lol, but I'm sure it's not just here.

You see the place where I fish on the river. All the Latino's go down there to try and catch their dinner.
Because they want to .. not because they have to. There is a big difference.

People in the US have no need to catch/trap/or kill food items. If they do so .. it is because they choose to do so .. it is not out of "need". In the US we have a Food Stamp Program .. for the legal people who can't afford food.

Must be slow dogs. Wolves can catch a dear, and plenty of hunting dogs are just as fast as Wolves.

And what stops a huge buck from killing a dog with it's antlers? When we pig hunted, the dogs had leather vests to protect from the pigs tusk's.

The dogs aren't wild things, like wolves .. they are trained to do a specific task. Deer are not wild boars .. 2 different animals .. deers aren't usually very aggressive.

They arn't trained to hurt the deer they are trained the herd the deer .. like a Border Collie does sheep. They have a very aggressive, loud bark (bay) .. and the fact that there are usually 4-5 of them in a pack herding the deer .. it's out numbered and scared .. so it runs.
