I had a job where my relationship with another employee had gotten so bad I found another job. When the big boss asked what it would take to get me to stay I told him only if he fired the other employee.

Oh, where to begin? Co-workers are always at the top of list of people that I am forced to spend way too much time with. Fortunately for me, I quit my job and can get away from their stupidity. They always say you can pick friends, but you are stuck with family. No one in my immediate family (mom, siblings, in-laws) can get along more than a month or two at time. If we spend very much time together a fight is inevitable.

One of the worst people I've had to deal with was, of course, a co-worker. Normally people like my work persona, but she was different. However, I did not leave my job because of this person. I did eventually leave, but for other reasons, and we made her leave first! Here's what happened.

I was working a grocery store as a lot attendant and a cashier. At this job, everyone switched positions as needed. I usually stayed as a lot attendant though because I preferred that spot, and everyone else hated it. It worked out well. I spent my days running outside to get carts, bagging groceries, helping old ladies put their groceries in their cars, and doing the daily cleaning. It was a very enjoyable job. However, one "superior" seemed to hate all lot attendants. She was little more than a cashier that got to organize the daily breaks, and I'm not sure why, but she would always pick on the lot attendant. The others could stand and talk, but if we dared say anything or have her bag her own register's groceries (note, we often swap between 3-5 registers) then she hated us. My work persona is near flawless, if I do say so myself. I am a very hard worker, I'm always smiling, I'm always positive, I'm always friendly, I get along with nearly everyone, and to top it off - I don't take any breaks that aren't state required (aka only my 30 min lunch, although I did take a 15 once when I was working a 15 hour shift). There's little reason not to like it.

Yet she seemed to hate me. She was constantly ordering me around, which would end up making things harder. Ex) If she didn't have a customer (yet others did) she would send me to get the 1-2 carts outside. I could handle 4-6 with ease. She would make me stand and bag her customer's groceries (when everyone else had no one and could easily bag insead) when I could be getting carts outside or emptying garbage. She would often "forget" my required lunch break and I would get it 6-7 hours through an 8 hour shift. She would intentionally pronounce my name wrong. Anything to try to bother me. None of this really bothered me though. I grew up being bullied - this was nothing. What bothered me is when she switched to my other co-workers and did the same thing. She would push them until they either got upset or cried, gave in and became obedient to just her, had their schedules switched, or quit. I can stand it, but I can't stand watching other people go through it. She never had more than one target so it became obvious when she switched off of me - especially since she would suddenly start calling me the right name.

Finally she picked the wrong target. She picked one of my friends who had been watching her target me for a long time. At first this person backed down when it happened but after a couple times she stopped backing down. Once she started going through everything that I put up with, she went and reported it to corporate. At first nothing happened. One report isn't much right? Well, that was just the start of it. More people started reporting, even customers started calling in about her bad attitude. She was finally called into the office. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but from what I hear she nearly quit on the spot. Apparently she would loose money somehow so she decided to "retire early". Despite being "excited" about retiring early and only having two weeks left... she seemed to be treating us even worse. Well, it was mostly directed at me and I was too happy to see her leaving to even care.

Finally, she was gone. We had won.

The funniest part is, I hear she's working at another store now. That retirement lasted a whole two years. As for why I left, well, I decided to go to college and it was too far away.
