I found out last night that my stepmom might be pregnant, she's in her fucking Mid 50s, is it even safe for someone her age to give birth?

Most people her age (give or take ten years) would have a C section. Might be riskier for both her and the child but there are cases where it's turned out well.
I hope it turns out that she's not pregnant, judging by the way all of her other kids turned out she is just about the worst parent imaginable.

I know women over 35 can give birth, there's a higher risk of complications, but they CAN. But I'm talking about someone in her Mid 50s who has been chain smoking since she was 14 years old, I really don't know if this baby(if it exists) will even survive 9 months, or if it does whether it will have some birth defect or something, I know she doesn't want another child either, Jesus Christ you'd think someone her age would either have her tubes tied or at least be responsible enough to use birth control.

Interesting page, women as old as 70 have given birth, that's crazy. I guess if it turns out she's pregnant the doctor will tell her whether or not she should go through with it.
I believe it's more of a risk to the baby than to the woman.
I know, I'm just thinking about the baby, I know it sounds bad but I don't really give a rat's ass about her, I'm just concerned about my potential little brother/sister.
Unusual for a woman that age to become pregnant but absolutely possible. Not really healthy for mother or baby in my opinion.

Yes, it seems unimaginable that even a 70 y/o woman can give birth but it happens. With advances in medical technologies now more and more women above 50 are getting pregnant. You've got the right too, only an MD can determine if your mom can continue with the pregnancy. Continued follow up with the MD and lots of tests she needs to undergo for diagnostics and stuffs that will determine her potential/ability for carrying the baby safe. There are a lot of aspects to consider which only an MD can determine. IF ever she's pregnant advise her to be complaint with follow ups with the OB-GYNE MD as that's very important for both their welfare

I really do think it's quite selfish for a woman of that age to get pregnant, I know a lot of people won't agree with me but can you really be running about with a kid when you're that age?
Also waiting in the school playground for them, their school friends will think it's their nan waiting for them.
You never know though, If she's had kids grow up to be totally screwed up then maybe the different circumstances may change the way she brings up the new one?

It's possible I guess, if it is I hope it's a girl.
If she didn't want another baby to begin with, then yeah she should have been doing something to prevent this.
As for her age, I really don't think that's mine or anyone else's business to say whether it's right or wrong. Risks aside, there are no time frames where you can't have a baby. whether you're young or old, who gives a fuck.

I'm not morally against her having a baby, I'm concerned as to whether or not it'll be safe for her to go through with it, if a doctor tells her she'll be safe t o go through with it then by all means she should have the baby. I overheard them talking about it earlier, my dad asked her if she wanted a boy or a girl, she said girl. It sounds like they might have confirmation if they're talking like that. I don't think they know that I know about this.
If she goes through with it, well I hope she gives it the best chance for survival, even though the chance of her giving up chain smoking is pretty low lol.
She supposedly quit a little over a year ago, but that doesn't change the fact that she did it from 14 up until her 50s, has to have been some negative long term effects, there is NO WAY my dad would let her do that while pregnant even if she wanted to, if she is still smoking(which I am pretty sure she is) it's in secret.
