Well yeah, thats how most governments work.

If you are not seduced by "nationalism" or "patriotism" you're forced against your will to fight (the draft).

hey, if there wasn't a draft 66+ years ago, we'd have a choice of German and Japanese languages to speak.

WW2 would have been won by the Russians alone.

But, if the Germans really wanted to invade America, they would have fallen flat on their faces, they didn't have the resources to do it all, plus we would have easily repulsed them.

Actually the Russians did have various battles with the Japanese during WW2. Really though, once Hitler set foot on Russian soil he was done for.

I agree Hitler didn't stand a chance. Wasn't a very good history student I believe. But I also know Russia didn't formally declare war on Japan until after we dropped a nuke on Hiroshima.

I don't think Russia could have beat Germany on their own. Hitlers fatal flaw was trying to fight the war on two fronts. Germany never had any intention of invading the USA either.

I do believe the Russians would have walked through Germany even if the Americans hadn't joined the war. The Germans made the big mistake of trying to fight the Russians on Russian soil. After that, the Germans were done for.

When he invaded Russia, that was the only front. The US landing on D-Day opened the second front.

I don't see how that really matters. Japan had almost zero natural resources and had poorly equipped troops.

But, based on the fact they didn't declare war until AFTER we whipped them into submission, I don't think they would've gone after Japan.

They pretty much did, though. Over 70% of German(I believe, I have to check that number, but its somewhere around there) military resources were committed solely to the eastern front, and they still got their noses bloodied, and the German military was THE best military at that time.

They wouldn't need to.

I'm not trying to down-play what our soldiers did in ww2, they did a lot of good and I respect them for doing it, but I think we get too much credit for the European theater.

Erm the US wern't the only nation involved on D Day you know!;) And the Western front was going on long before that while Hitler was trying (and failing miserably) to win the battle in the air and bomb Britain into submission.

The Battle of Britain wasn't a front. A front typically involves ground troops and an area of contested land. There was no threat of a ground attack from England for how many years? 4? I said the US opened the front because Britain obviously wasn't gonna do it alone.

There was a very real thread of an invasion since the British troops evacuated France. There was already networks of resistance fighters being organised in case we were invaded. The battle in the air and the bombings were to weaken Britain in preparations for an invasion. Wining that battle was crucial to delay an invasion.Whether the US had got involved or not, Britain would still have had to attempt a D day at some point.
