Liberals Cave To CAIR; Do You Care?
As many of you know, we have been following the sordid tale of the “Six
Flying Imams” for some time now, and the story took a disturbing turn
yesterday. Here’s a brief recap of the details:
Last year, U.S. Airways removed six imams from a flight due to several
passenger complaints about their very erratic and unusual behavior. The
Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) filed a lawsuit against U.S.
Airways and the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Airports Commission
seeking unspecified monetary damages for false arrest, negligent and
intentional infliction of emotional distress, defamation, and conspiracy to
discriminate, among other alleged offenses.
But CAIR went even further and actually named several of the airline
passengers, who reported concerns about the imam’s behavior, as defendants
in the case! Their message was heard loud and clear: “If you report
suspicious behavior, we’ll sue you.” In a post-9/11 atmosphere, when we
are asking our citizens to be vigilant, that is precisely the wrong message
to be sending!
For example, you may recall that the store clerk who reported the “Fort Dix
Six” initially worried that he might be accused of racism. Thankfully, he
overcame that fear and did the right thing, saving many lives. But CAIR’s
lawsuit only reinforces such fears already created by liberal political
correctness.
The good news is that conservatives in the House of Representatives
introduced legislation to protect “John Doe” citizens who report suspicious
behavior from frivolous lawsuits. In March, House Republicans orchestrated
a procedural maneuver to force a vote on this bill over the objections of
leading Democrats. And – surprise, surprise – once it reached the floor
for a fair vote, the House overwhelmingly, 304-to-121, approved the bill!
Now here’s the bad news – and all of you receiving this report should be
outraged: Yesterday, liberal Democrats, in negotiations with their Senate
counterparts, stripped the legislation out of the final Homeland Security
bill. And an attempt in the Senate to attach the “John Doe” protections to
an education bill failed to overcome a Democrat filibuster by a vote of 57-
to-39.
This is the game liberals are playing with our security. They voted for
the bill on the House floor, but then what did they do? They waited until
the dead of summer, at the end of the week, just as they are getting ready
to leave town for an extended recess, to strip it out in a conference
committee when they think no one is paying attention.
Why would they do that? There is only one group of folks demanding that
this bill be killed – the radical “blame America first” crowd led by the
ACLU and CAIR. Democrats know this bill is overwhelmingly popular with the
American people. It received strong majority support in both the House
(304 votes) and the Senate (57 votes). Yet, at the end of the day, the
liberals caved in to CAIR and demands of the radical Left.
This is a glimpse of the future, my friends. This is what a Hillary
Clinton Administration will look like – the demands of political
correctness and the radical Left will run roughshod over the will of the
people.
Now, I know there are some of you out there who are angry with the GOP.
I’ve got my share of frustrations, too. Yet what happened yesterday with
the “John Doe” bill should prove the folly of sitting out the elections and
withholding your vote in order to punish the GOP for its failings. By
putting the liberals in the majority, it should be painfully obvious now
that the country is being punished in the process! And I don’t think any
of you – whether you stayed home or voted Democrat in protest – “voted” for
that.
The unfortunate reality now, my friends, is that the liberals are reaping
the rewards of their new status – they are outraising us by leaps and
bounds. Now in the majority on Capitol Hill, the radical Left is intent on
retaking the White House to fully consolidate its power.
It’s not hard to see why: Everything is at stake in 2008! From the
direction America will take in the war against Islamofascism to tax cuts
set to expire in 2010 to the fact that next year marks the 35th anniversary
of Roe v. Wade and one of the most liberal Supreme Court justices recently
celebrated his 87th birthday – everything is on the line.
