i am late.

i have taken apart my laptop, and have lost a few screws. it still runs; cannot say that for the cd rom drive though.

i have touched the white tape. no harm done. just do not apply significant pressure, and all things are gravy.

memory from 256mb to 1 gig (max -- yeah, this part sucks)
took out the cd drive -- never use it
installed an intel 2200bg... range sucked... so i really tore it down, routed a wireless antenna all up into it and most of the extra wire went into the back of the actual display, and, unlike the kingsmen, was able to put the laptop back together again.

have been using it for about 3 years now; been about 6 months, since installing the wireless antenna.

of course, i got a desktop, so most of my development environments moved over (faster hardware, more memory, et cetera).

brave soul, no; stupid, quite.

just about .. 2000 Compaq Evo n610c. Intel Mobile Pentium 4-M (yes, two 'm's) @ 1.8GHz. The processor is literally a dumbed-down version of a Pentium 4. Either sPec states it is HT capable or some online site did, but the laptop's motherboard is not, therefore a single-core setup. came with 20GB's of hard drive space (IDE-44) and still has that drive.

well, i never "fixed" anything, except maybe for the wireless card's range.

never had an issue with the thing. :thumbup

but i've always taken apart things. the laptop was a rare event, where when put back together, it worked.

Yeah; it was also mission critical as well: it was my only computer during a few semesters of college. :willy_nilly:
