So... if it stops working and the controller smells faintly like party poppers (you know, a sort of burnt spark smell), is it probably dead forever?

Jump in bed and warm it up under the covers with the hair dryer for 10 min...ffs remember to turn it off before you fall asleep;)

Unless you're an electrician, do not try to fix that. Electric blankets are sketchy when they are running perfectly, let alone when they smell like they are burned out, and not working.

Sorry if that sounded bossy.

I read it out of love and concern...

No it's fine, my version of 'fixing' is to bang the controller repeatedly against a flat surface in anger :) taking it apart never even occurred to me.

I am an electrician and an HVAC guy and I would not attempt to fix it. Be safe. Toss it.

HK, I thought you were hot enough yourself that you didn't need an electric blanket. :D

All my heat is projected outwards unfortunately, so although being in my immediate vicinity can be very pleasant on a cold night, internally I'm like an ice box :(

Now to be clear, you guys keep saying throw it out. If I unplug and disconnect it, is that okay? Does it actually need to leave the house?
