.... and I think I'm going to like it. That's if I can ever get some focusing stuff figured out.

Spotted Towhee on a dark and dreary BC day .... He wasn't flying, he was jumping. :thumbup

Taken at 1/1600 sec, iso 1600 :thumbup :thumbup :D f6.3 w/ 100 - 400mm @ 400mm. ( unedited )

whats the toy?

the focus looks pretty good considering the speed which birds can move
It's a 7D.

I'm not having trouble with the focus but I am having trouble setting a single focal point. It's a hell of a lot different than what I'm used to. I followed the instructions to a tee and still can't get rid of all but one so I'm re-reading the booklet for about the fifth time.

Yay for new toys!! icon-e-PinkPomp.png

Nice pic too. Your focus is fine in this one. :thumbup

I was having trouble trying to figure out how to set the focal points. The book wasn't a lot of help so I let Google be my friend and it helped me find a clear and concise description. It's so much different than my 50D and it's going to take some time.

It hasn't taken any time to adjust to shooting at higher iso settings though. With BC weather I need all the help I can get. With the 50D I didn't dare go over 800 and even at that I had a pile of noise that drove me nuts. A few minutes ago I shot Bambi at 3200 and with just a quick glance on my computer I'm pleasantly surprised.

Check back in a little while. I shot a horse and the aforementioned Bambi for you.

So what you see as functions and auto setting in your 7D is what I see in my T2i but mine is not a Full Frame..

That's what the store was telling me..

Yes the high ISO ( ISO3200 ) is so easy to use.. I have to agree it makes it a no brainer..

The 7D isn't full frame either and that's one of the reasons I bought it. I like the 1.6 crop factor for the type of shooting I do. If I was in to shooting people type stuff there is no doubt I would have bought the 5D. The 7D is more suited to action type stuff and considering that's what I prefer it was a easy decision after all the research I did.

I shot these in my back 40 at about 6:45 Pm tonight. That makes it just before sunset so I cranked the iso up to 3200 which is 4x what I would have done on the 50D. The deer were probably 300 yards away and my 100 - 400 was at it's max. I didn't have a lot of time to make any settings because once they saw me they started to move so I shot them on auto.

I have not post processed these in any way. What you see is what came out of the camera.

If I zoom into the shots I can see a bit of noise but that's to be expected. I could clean it up using one of my programs but before I do I thought I would show you they are ok. :D

This is the horsie I shot for Zirc. When I pointed the camera at him and said it was for Zirc it's bottom lip started to quiver just a wee little bit.... and I'm not kidding. :24: He must have heard about her. :D Once again no pp has been done.

The weather man threatened some sun for tomorrow and I'm so excited I could squish a grape. I can't wait to try it out at 100, 200 or even 400 iso.

It didn't look very happy. It's one of those outside horses with it's winter coat and it looked cold. Poor thing needs one of them horsie blankies.
Pfft. It has lots of hair so I doubt it was cold. If our horses are fine outside here when it's -40C then I'm sure this one was nice and toasty. :p

Interesting.. That's what happens when you work off memory and the SD Card is already full.. :24:

Well I am glad you like it.. I love mine for the use I get out of it.. ;)

Two absolutely different purposes but don't slam your shots. I looked at a bunch if you can recall and you'll have great memories you can share with my little buddy. :thumbup

Lovely shots there Guy with the new toy. Very clear, despite the settings.
Not bad for the first time out. It's a complicated thing Siph and I was hoping for a good workout today but got nothing but disappointment. The weatherman was off by a mile today and the sun hasn't peeked through for even 1 minute. I took a pile of shots but nothing worth posting. I will say this about it... I love the focusing system and have that sorted out now. It makes shooting birds in flight so much easier than it was with the 50D. All I have to do is remember how to switch it from one setting to another. Other than that it tracks like a sidewinder missile. :thumbup My initial intent was to keep the 50D as a backup body but I don't think I will. Time will tell but it's doubtful I'll ever want to use it again.
