First Day of School

Today is the first day of school across most of our state.

My little town has grown so fast they have re-allocated all of the schools in town to a maximum of 2 grades per school until high school. Kindergarten is 1 school. First & second one, third & fourth one, Fifth & sixth one, seventh & eighth one, ninth thru twelfth is one school. The high school is one of the largest in the state. This creates an issue for some parents who have multiple children at multiple schools.

They built a new school which is self-contained first thru sixth but it only handles less than half the students in town.

First day for school was 2 weeks ago here.

State legislature got involved with school start times at the urgence of the tourism industry in our state. The influence of their lobbying paid off for them and really put the screws to the school systems. To accommodate the later start to the school year the students lost days Thanksgiving week and get a shorter Christmas break. There are no weather days built in so if weather effects the schedule the students will go into the summer now.

My school district had one high school, one middle school, and one elementary school. I was so surprised to learn how huge the districts are where I go to college/work. Most have 1-3 high schools, a trillion middle schools and even more elementary schools.

Goodness, kids here don't start school until after Labor Day!

Oh, and we have ONE school. For everybody. Kids in PreK through 12th grade are all in one school.

We used to have two, an Elementary School and a High School but there are next to no kids left--so they made the switch two years ago and moved everyone into the "old" high school.

In our State, school doesn't start until after Labor Day either. But we have many fine schools. In my city lots! Alas, that means my commute to work will be lengthened A WHOLE 5 MINUTES!

Immy's school starts 10th Sept.

I am already prepared and now just waiting. I have her uniform, PE kit, lunchbox and book bag.
