Federal Workers Picketing

As some of you know I work for the government. I'm quasi-management so I can't belong to a union, but the Union the represents the bulk of gvmt workers is AFGE. So today they are holding picket signs surrounding the building I work at, mostly district office workers, not our office to bring the ramification of furloughs of Federal Workers and what it would mean to citizens.

We are not all politicians or work at non-critical jobs, some of us keep checks coming to Social Security receipients, some are air traffic controllers, some are people who process your tax returns, some inspect your food to insure safety, etc.

The House and Senate now have until 3/18 to pass a budget, if they don't there is a threat of shutting down the government.

There are a lot of ramifications to every day folks that they don't think of and would effect many, many people outside the government.

Frankly if there is a furlough I don't know how Joe and I will handle it financially. I guess after a week, I would be eligible for unemployment, I've never claimed it.

Weird times these are, I hope you Americans remember whatever happens come election time. I know I will.

A lot of Matt's coworkers are civilians and he says they'll show up Monday and then find out if they're staying or not. The ones that aren't just get to turn around and go right back home. He's secure, since he's military, but it does scare me, because most of my friends are his coworkers who are civilians.

I'll keep you in my thoughts, hart.

For as much as a I feel for the workers... at the same time, something has to be done. If it means the government shuts down, then perhaps that's the wakeup call that people need to realize that there's a very serious problem.
