Yesterday I had to sit through another one of those stupid family dinners. you know, that time when your relatives get together, drink shitty wine and talk about most random bullshit. for instance, we were talking about: abortion, religion, that girl who got beat to death in Syracuse, and pets. it alwasy sets me off when people talk about pets. they always try to point out that their little pet is "special" and "humane".

my grandma is the WORST offender. she always talks about her stupid cat moxie or whatever the hell his name is. she told everybody that when she feels sick, the stupid animal comes and rubs her leg. I think the damn thing was probably hungry or wanted to go outside. my cats always come and yell to me when they want food or when they want to go out on the patio and I do it (when I'm not at work and playing games on here :cool ).

I hope we dont get another one of those "parties" before I go to college, which will happen in a week and a half. those are not real parties. a party is when people drink straight from the keg, not sipping their merlot or cabernet. drink to get drunk, or at least drink Sam Adams if not getting drunk.

I love my family to death, but I don't generally like extended family get togethers. I love hanging out with my sister and my dad, and I can handle my mom in small doses, but extended family makes me want to throw up.

On my mother's side they're all intensely religious and love to tell me how I'm causing them pain with my lifestyle and how I'm gonna burn for eternity.

On my dad's side they all barely speak a word of English, and my Norwegian is very, very bad and out of use, so I can't carry on a conversation with any of them, so it's generally pretty boring.

But I love my family regardless.

im sorry your family isnt open minded enough to support your lifestyle and you. it is extremely selfish on their part to denounce and belittle you for those reasons

hahahaha Gotta love those Jesus Freaks eh? My aunt told me one time that if I was gay, she'd still love me.

But she hates homosexuals because thats where aids came from.

Ironic isn't it? I hate bible thumpers who preach their shit at me.

Haha, for all my life my mother assured me that she would love me no matter what. I was the "good child" and my sister was the "rebel". Then I came out, and our roles were reversed and my sister can now do no wrong and I'm completely evil.

How I love organized religion. And family. Together. Really.

Organised Religion, much like family, is over rated.

I don't do family. Beyond my hubby, and our son, I really don't give a crap about the rest of my family. I see my mother often, only because she wants to see her grandson, extended family, I haven't seen in more than 3 years. I like it that way. We do see my in laws semi regularly, also, in part, because of their grandchild.

Sorry. I had an epiphany last summer when I had 65 cents in the bank and when I asked my dad for a bit of cash to get me through the week, he gave me more than I'd expected.

I work for my dad, with my brother and my mom. Family is EXTREMELY important to me... that's why I cringe when I read how you guys put too much importance on the differences of opinions you have with your families.

Ditto! I talk to my mom and dad every single day. I make it a habit to cause you never know what life brings you. I wouldnt be who I am today if it wasnt for my mom and dad. They have ALWAYS been there for me. When I very 1st got married, I was still in college and things were rough at the start and apparently my dad could see that so he went to the bank and paid off my car for me. I mean, come on..........thats fucking awesome! And not to mention that I now work nights and my mom brings me dinner EVERY night. She hasnt missed a night yet. I never asked her to do that for me, she just does.

"Difference of opinion" is a little light. I mean, I was raised going to Sunday school and going to church and hearing my mother's point of view. I understand where she's coming from. It fucked me up for a while too.

But I think it's a little bit important that my mother refuses to make eye contact with me because I stopped going to church and failed to live up to what she considers the ideal Good Christian Man. It's probably important that her reaction when I told her that I'm gay was to hit me. Not, like, an offended slap. Like, she actually gave me a bruise on my face.

I really love my family. I really love my mother, immensely, too, even though she's caused a lot of pain. Because she's my mother.

I love my family. They're important to me. But when religion clouds family relationships, that's just wrong. When anything interferes with family relationships, it's wrong.

I think it highly depends on the family in question. For us, it's not simply a "difference of opinion". We actually can't stand to be in the same room with eachother. The woman my mom's brother is married to (I will not call her my Aunt), goes out of her way to make one feel uncomfortable in her home. My mom puts up with it, as soon as I was "independant" I said "Fuck it", and refused to go to her house.

I get on well with my dad and brother. My mum drives me fucking nuts coz all she ever does is complain about stuff. My sister is ok and I get on great with my Bro in law but now they have 4 kids I avoid them like the plague.

I dislike visiting my in laws as it's always the same. Eat a meal sit in front of the TV and watch them fall asleep then go to bed in the damp spare room while my gf sleeps in her old bedroom that they've kept exactly like it was.

I own extended family are all nice people but I rarely see them and avoid speaking to them when they come and visit.

I am a bit of a misery when it comes to family stuff... I dislike children and dislike the whole being nice to people that you really would never have anything to do with if you weren't related.

I don't like christmas either.

actually, my family is decently close. my brother is going to college, im still waiting to get accepted [ shouldnt be hard - top 30% and a 3.12 gpa :D ]. and we will always keep in touch, even if its just a couple times a week ( my brother ) ... i still live with mom, so i still talk to her everyday. my sister is married and moved out for some time now, but we all still talk.

i just put me first, then family - its more like a water molecule - its really close to neutral ( no difference in relavence ) but there is a miniscule negative charge ( and thats what puts me in the lead - survival, thats about it ) ...

now, if i was taking someone somewhere in my car, and it was inevitable that there was going to be an accident, and i had to make a choice, i would go with my car, in order to save my passenger. thats just how it is.

i have wierd values | morals :tard
