Who here thinks abortion is baby murder? I personally start the life clock at the heartbeat. After that, you're killing a child.

Story:

Baby Miraculously Survives Abortion, Expected to Live 'Normal' Life

Thursday, June 05

A mother who decided to abort her son because he may have inherited a life-threatening kidney condition is overjoyed that he survived the procedure.
Jodie Percival of Nottinghamshire, England, said she and her fiancee made the decision to abort baby Finley when she was eight weeks pregnant.
Percival's first son Thane died of multicystic dysplastic kidneys — which causes cysts to grow on the kidneys of an unborn baby — and her second child Lewis was born with serious kidney damage and currently has just one kidney, the Daily Mail reported.

"I was on the (birth control pill) when I became pregnant," Percival, 25, said. "Deciding to terminate at eight weeks was just utterly horrible but I couldn't cope with the anguish of losing another baby."
A short time after the abortion, Percival felt a fluttering in her stomach. She went to the doctor for a scan and discovered she was 19 weeks pregnant.
"I couldn't believe it,' Percival said. "This was the baby I thought I'd terminated. At first I was angry that this was happening to us, that the procedure had failed. I wrote to the hospital, I couldn't believe that they had let me down like this.
"They wrote back and apologized and said it was very rare," she added.
Dr. Manny Alvarez, managing health editor for FOXNews.com, said Percival's situation is actually quite common.
"Women that have early terminations in weeks six, seven and eight, many times the pregnancy is so small that doctors miss removing the baby," Alvarez said. "The danger is that the failed attempt can damage the baby. That is why these patients who get early terminations need follow-ups."
Another scan a week later confirmed the baby also had kidney problems, but doctors told the couple the baby was likely to survive, so they decided he deserved another chance at life.
In November, Finley was born three weeks premature. He had minor kidney damage but is expected to lead a normal life.

I don't know off the bat from which point the heart starts beating but if it is done early enough before real formation takes place I don't think it's murder. Once real formation is in place it's a tough call and may be considered murder IMO.

There are extenuating circumstances though that I believe exceptions would need to be made.
Eg: Life threatening to mother, rape etc.

I have always stated my stance is that it is wholly up to the mother or parents to make the decision of abortion vs birth and adoption.

I don't agree with abortions in the 3rd trimester. It's so close to being born, meaning birthing and handing over parental rights for an adoption to take place is the best choice, IMO.

Yeah, pro-choice here, too. I also get annoyed when pro-lifers call it pro-abortion/death.

Within the first few weeks or so it's basically a parasite anyways.

Im not really sure how to reply to this, but Im sorry I really didnt look at my unborn child the first few weeks as a parasite thats pretty crude and I feel sorry for you that you feel that way

lol I knew someone would get after me for that.

I don't look at children as parasites, but stop being so sensitive about it.

It's not that it isn't true, because definitions point towards children in the first buncha weeks as parasites. It is just a crude way of looking at it but I didn't say I look at it like that. It's a matter of perception. You can't argue that they aren't parasites, you can argue that you don't look at it like that, and I'd agree with the latter.

I said it as a view on unborn children that people don't seem to bring up very often in these types of discussions.

And don't feel sorry for me.

They are parasites. Parasites that grow into adorable babies eventually but parasites nonetheless. Freak on me if you want but it is simply a factual statement. I love babies more than anyone I know so you can't call me a baby hater for it.

I understood what you meant. Some women may get sensitive about it being said like that and take it out of perspective but your definition is corect.

We realize you get annoyed with the idea that killing = death. Coming from a position of assuming a fetus is a human being though, who would we be to NOT use as strong a language as possible in the description of the event?

I was always on the fence, but constantly supported right to choose... until I saw my son on our first ultrasound. He was only a couple of weeks into development, but there were arms and legs and a heart, and he was moving around. The motion was decisively human in nature.

In that second I became a full blooded abortion (past a heartbeat) is killing a child kind of guy.

A question for pro-choice groups... when does a fetus become a child? Is it when his or her skull touches air for the first time? What changes exactly in that moment?

im a firm believer that abortion should only be taken as a last resort. i can understand someone making that choice if giving birth will be life threatening to mother or child but thats just about the only way i can agree with it. i found out i was preg with my son at 3 weeks and had my first ultrasound at 4 weeks. its amazing how fast a baby developes. at four weeks we could see the heartbeat and hear it beating loud and strong even though the doctor warned us beforehand that we probably would not be able to hear anything and shouldnt worry. i dont know, i guess i just feel bad for those who choose abortion. they are missing out on the best miracle and the joy of seeing your child for the first time .

:homo:

Yep, people can call it other things all they like to try and make themselves feel better about what the're doing but like it or not, at the end of the day, you're murdering a baby.
