Exactly - and we are both from the south - how'd that happen given the state of southern public education?

Lots of kids were mentally absent most days. Interesting how those that wanted it, managed to get a quality education from the public schools and go on to accel in life - yet so many say public education is the problem. Just imagine society without public education. :willy_nilly: Think our society is bad now? It's depressing to imagine the alternative.

My son was given the choice of several historical events to study for his history assessment. The ones that he didn't choose, he wasn't even asked for a page on.At least, not from the school.

I can't remember where I saw it or who said it, but I remember a quote that said something along the lines, "History teaches us nothing. We are doomed to repeat it."

It is rather amazing to see such ignorance and it is probably due to "not paying attention" in school or life. Imagine if they were asked what the Hindenburg disaster was ... they would have NO idea.

A certain amount of history will dwindle from the common mind as time goes by but there is certain history that should not be forgotten. I would place the Titanic as one of them ...
