Re: Exxon Sues Venezuala!!!!! :)

What would you suggest we do?
Be less interventionist. I'm not suggesting isolationism in anyway. What I am suggesting is global understanding on our part and the people we have problems with, and rectifying them as soon as possible.

Re: Exxon Sues Venezuala!!!!! :)

Developing the resources for third world nations is raping them?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The oil doesn't drill itself out of the ground nor does it refine itself. lol
It's still their oil, and yes we basically want it to ourselves, that is why this is happening.

It would still be their oil. lol He just wants to steal the assets generated by others and use them as part of his dictator power grab.

You. Are. Awesome.

But when you're dealing with terrorists, you can't negotiate. The only thing they understand is violence. I'm not saying I don't understand, I do, but still, if the only thing they're willing to except is violence, then give em hell, is what I say.

What a FOX news channel buzz phrase! haha. But really, to say they aren't willing to talk things out is throwing out a viable and peaceful option. Violence only begets violence, and the circle will always turn as long as we use it. I'm willing to bet if we agreed to certain compromises they would be willing to sit down and negotiate.

Or he doesn't want foreign countries messing around with his own resources.

Yeah, I can see the list right now:
1. Theocratic regime in your country.
2. All people must be Muslim
3. Give up all of your country's values.
4. Women must now show only their eyes, and are by law subordinate to men.
...

Seriously, though, I really don't think that people who blow themselves up and throw parties while 3000 people are killed in a few hours are willing to sit down and negotiate a reasonable treaty. You can't honestly tell me you believe that they would, can you?

Then he wouldn't have any resources to use as leverage for his power grab.
All exxon and the other oil companies did was go in there and develop those resources at great benefit to Valenzuela. Not only did the government receive a lot of money out of it, the developing of those resources was great boom to their economy.
Hardly the "raping of nations".

Again, the majority of people that hate us are not Al-queda or the Taliban. Of course you won't be able to negotiate very well with the likes of Osama, but you'll certainly be able to reach that young kid who doesn't belong to any organization, and just doesn't want you meddling in his affairs.

Developing the resources for Venezuela? LMAO! ExxonMobil doesn't give two shits about Venezuela! If they did Chavez wouldn't need to commandeer his oil resources.

Hardly the "raping of nations".

Do you have any idea how much money ExxonMobil is making in comparison to what Venezuela is making off Venezuela's oil? If you did, you'd understand the "raping".

What are the exact numbers?
Who is doing all the work?
Do you honestly expect oil companies to develop the energy resources of third world nations for free?
Does any of those numbers factor in the benefit to the local economy?

Re: Exxon Sues Venezuala!!!!! :)

I just came across this quote in an article when reading about this topic.

The U.S. is launching a diplomatic offensive to meet the growing threat to its energy security from powerful and increasingly wealthy producers who are flexing their new geopolitical muscles. Faced with oil-related challenges on a number of fronts — from Venezuela to countries of the former Soviet Union — U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Wednesday that she will appoint a special envoy for energy issues to deal with countries that use their oil and gas for political means.
Her action underscores the growing concern about security of energy supplies in the United States, and the shrinking pool of reserves available to multinational corporations as producing countries put their resources in the hands of national oil companies.

I found it interesting that the US government ties it's energy security to multinational corporations...

Once I'm done reading up on this Exxon suit, I'll be back to weigh in on it... but I need more edumacation on it first.

Re: Exxon Sues Venezuala!!!!! :)

And what I have found so far...

Exxon walked away from it's investment of $750 million in Venezuela in 2007... now they want $12 billion from the deal.

The company estimates that its $750 million investment in the country is now worth $12 billion because of rising crude prices.

So far it isn't looking good for Exxon.... but I haven't finished reading up on what Chavez was doing this whole time....

more to come...

Re: Exxon Sues Venezuala!!!!! :)

A: Exxon is not and was not the only oil producer in Venezuela.
B: Anytime you buy gasoline from Citgo, you are buying it directly from an asset of Chavez.
C: What Exxon was doing was strategic, they knew Venezuela was a hotbed, but they had the money and the development rights, it was like buying stock on an option.

And last but not least, we do get a decent amount of our produced oil from Venezuela, so we need to find an alternative if we plan on pissing him off too bad.

From what I have been reading, it doesn't seem like Exxon is even close to being a major player in the Venezuela oil market. Am I reading that right?

They never had as big of a stake as others, but they did a common thing you will not read about anywhere.

It basically like playing craps and betting on the "Come Line", they put a small amount of money out there, use third party drillers and producers, reap the lease benefits they have, basically taking money both ways, back charging for leases they were sold, and charging the US for tax dollars for expenses. W

When the independent drillers/producers cannot handle the constant pressure of the K&R's that always take place, they bail, the originating company then bears the entire burden, and they pull this stunt, they go after the country they are in first, when it all falls down they will go after the US government for the losses and we of course will give it to them.

There is no real simple way of explaining it, it's borderline criminal to be quite honest.

Re: Exxon Sues Venezuala!!!!! :)

Thank you very much for your insight Evan....

Yet I find it funny how people will jump to all sorts of conclusions without ever having the facts...

That's one of the reasons I'm still up in the air... I still have a lot of edumacating meself before I can intelligently chat it up....

be patient... I'm still reading. :0
