Ever been to a rally?

I spent a big part my Saturday with thousands of other teachers in the pouring rain rallying at our state capitol. I had never been to a rally before and I have to say it was thrilling. I was in awe of all the people who came out to fight for the same thing. It made me feel justified in my feelings. And it was great to see democracy in action! Recently teachers have been depicted as the "bad guys." There are bills being voted on that threaten to take away our collective bargaining rights. I am not going to get into it all (even though I could go on for hours) but it could impact our pay, our insurance coverage, and our classroom climates. It doesn't help that the goals they have set up for standardized testing have set us up for failure. They are unrealistic and almost impossible to reach.

Whew. Sorry for rambling. Anyways...

Beyond that, the rest of my weekend was spent relaxing. The hubbub spent the greater part of the weekend getting on my nerves but he did help me pick out a new laptop for my birthday (YAY!). And I also succeeded in catching up on all of my grading.

How was your weekend?

Good for you for getting out there and standing up for your rights. :clap

I am 100% behind you and your cause. There are a minority in this country that want to demonize collective bargaining and they will take it if given the chance. Unions have been under attack in this country for years and I hope enough people wake up before its too late.

Thank you! It was awesome to see so many come together for the same cause. Fireman, policemen, construction workers, and other people protected by unions came to show their support. The opposing party, the Tea Party had less than 50 supporters. Ha.

THIS is another perfect example of how Ron Paul's Tea Party has been totally corrupted. :( It is such a far cry from what started as a great movement. It has been invaded by the corporations and it's followers are too dumb to realize it.

Protests are happening in quite a few states now. It's a great thing.

That everyone's pleas seem to fall on deaf ears makes me wonder how said politicians can be so confident their jobs are not on the line next election season? Perhaps Diebold has it in the bag for them? :humm:

But would "Ron Pauls" tea party protest against collective bargaining rights? I don't think so...

With good reason

Private day-care workers forced to join union

Fortunately with a new governor they rescinded this crap. It was a grand scheme concocted by the former governor and the unions. They even had a college involved who did not even speak to anybody about what they were supposed to do.

Unions are no longer needed when you have dimestore lawyers out there looking to sue for anything.

The private sector goes under if the employees compensation is not sustainable. With the public sector they can get what they want and we just raise taxes. Time for that to stop.
