I spent a big part my Saturday with thousands of other teachers in the pouring rain rallying at our state capitol. I had never been to a rally before and I have to say it was thrilling. I was in awe of all the people who came out to fight for the same thing. It made me feel justified in my feelings. And it was great to see democracy in action! Recently teachers have been depicted as the "bad guys." There are bills being voted on that threaten to take away our collective bargaining rights. I am not going to get into it all (even though I could go on for hours) but it could impact our pay, our insurance coverage, and our classroom climates. It doesn't help that the goals they have set up for standardized testing have set us up for failure. They are unrealistic and almost impossible to reach.
Whew. Sorry for rambling. Anyways...
Beyond that, the rest of my weekend was spent relaxing. The hubbub spent the greater part of the weekend getting on my nerves but he did help me pick out a new laptop for my birthday (YAY!). And I also succeeded in catching up on all of my grading.
How was your weekend?
