So I am listening to No Apologies and I just feel like talking about the guy. So some loosely connected thoughts about him.

I wish No Apologies would have been released sooner. I know that it was made up of some freestyles but he shoulda put it out there around the Marshall Mathers LP to put some context into what he's saying. I love this song because I always love these "I'm an artist, deal with it." Plus I kind of apply certain lines to myself and my writing.

He's got a new album coming out sometime and I'm hoping for the best, but I'm fearful. Can he ever be as hungry as he was? Prolly not. I just hope he doesn't fill up the album with lame jokes like Encore (even though there were a few great songs on there, like Yellow Brick Road and Like Toy Soldiers).

FACK is a horrible song, Shake That is only okay, When I'm Gone is awesome. Seems like he does sad best now, instead of angry.

The Slim Shady LP is a classic. It's just a perfect major label debut album. It's cartoony, it's violent and angry, it's insanely satirical and really funny, and his skills are superb.

The Marshall Mathers LP is angry and amped up while adding a little bit more context about who he is and why he is that way. Some amazing songs, a stinker or two but I'd still call it a classic anyways.

The Eminem Show also has some great songs but there's a few stinkers on there too. I'm generous when it comes to Em, and while I wouldn't call it a classic, I think it's a great album. I actually like a skit on it too, The Kiss. It goes perfectly into Soldier.

Encore isn't the most offensively bad album I've ever heard or anything but if the other albums (in order) are a 10, 9, 7.5 or 8, then this is like a 4 or at the most 5 out of 10. There are a few great songs, as I said above, but the skills aren't up to par for him, the jokes aren't even funny (he was funnier on his first album), and songs like Mosh -- although I do like it -- weren't even that relevant when he made it and it was right before the election! He fell off quite a bit. You could see it happening on TES occasionally but not like this.

So, King Mathers -- as it's titled now -- might bring him back up to speed. He's still got his talent... you don't just lose it. When I'm Gone shows that he can write a good SONG, so I'm curious as to what he'll do now. Will he try to do lyrical back flips or will he try to craft songs? I doubt it'll be as good as his first two albums but here's hopin it is.
Oh and I hope he doesn't have a ridiculous amount of guests on it. I want to hear HIM on his own albums, except for a couple songs.

Also: he's not a homophobe. Never has been.

Exactly. I mean, that was a big fuck you to everyone even though apparently Em didn't know Elton was gay (although I don't know how that's possible...). He said that still, it made a big statement that Elton knew where he was coming from.

People just ignored the fact that Eminem was/is a master satirist. It's really aggressive and hilarious satire. Yet back when he was always getting in shit they couldn't think enough to place in words in context. SSLP was satire, people overreacted, so he amped it up to offend more people on the MMLP ("shit, half the shit I say, I just make it up to make you mad.")

It completely boggles my mind how people can miss what he's saying... he says it right here:
Hey, it's me, Versace whoops, somebody shot me!
And I was just checkin the mail, get it? Checkin the 'male'?
How many records you expectin to sell after your second LP sends you directly to jail? C'mon!-- Relax guy, I like gay men, right, Ken? Give me an amen (AAA-men!)

He's hilarious. Slim Shady is evil personified but he's just a character!

Marshall Mathers LP was the best in my opinion. He was pissed and you could tell. So much emotion in that album. I didnt know he was making another album. I thought he was done after encore.

Eminem_Infinite_Cover.jpg

Recorded 1995
Released 1996

Only 1,000 cassettes and 100 vinyls were made.

Infinite marks the debut of the name "Eminem."

Some amazing tracks. Worth checking out even if you don't like Eminem usually. Tonite is absolutely outstanding, as are Infinite and the uplifting It's OK.

When I posted it somewhere else the member with the most knowledge of this genre commented that this album was possibly Eminem's lyrical peak, and despite the poor production it was worth it for the lyrics alone. It is a very positive album on the whole.

EMINEM - Infinite

NB - These files are sampled at 128 kbps. Apologies. I have not found better. Also, there is a huge skip in the title track Infinite at 3:19. It's actually not that bad in context though.

It's very good lyrically but he didn't develop his own style at that point. Even he admits that its more like a demo that got released.

Just sharing something Tyler - took me 4 hours to upload.

I agree that it hardly defines his style - it's just his first release - nothing more or less. The man is obviously a lyrical genius and I thought that someone might like to have a glimpse into his earlier work, before all the fame and fortune. It's far from embarrassing - plenty of solid stuff.

I can't wait to hear the new album.
