One of the most important aspects in the lives of the elderly is their independence. Living on their own, being able to drive their vehicles, things like that, are huge in the lives of older people.

For an elderly person to no longer be able to drive a car is a very hard pill for them to swallow. And that's why some of the elderly who can no longer safely drive a car refuse to give up driving, putting the lives of everyone else in danger in the process.

Many older folks are still good at driving vehicles. But some are no longer able to drive safely.

By the time my grandfather was in his 70's, he was making way too many mistakes while driving his car. However, he refused to give up driving, until my grandmother put her foot down, that is.

Any elderly person who shouldn't be on the road needs to realize that while it's hard to give up driving, look at the alternative. They have no right to endanger the lives of others because they don't want to lose a big part of their independence.

And anyone who knows an elderly person who keeps driving even though he or she shouldn't needs to realize that they must stop them from waiting for a major accident to occur to force them to stop driving.

My dad is 83 and he still drives his 2015 V6 2 door coupe 8 hours to visit me with little problem.

I know some 17 year olds who shouldn't be driving.

It really depends on the person and if they are still capable of safely operating a motorized vehicle.

Although there are a lot of people who should not be driving, no matter the age! I agree. There are certain older folks out there who should be ready to give up their drivers license. Especially if it puts others in harms way.

I'm not saying every elderly should, as there are many of them who still drive better than the average young adult.
